Prince Harry could possibly miss his upcoming UK hearing, which is being held to discuss his security arrangements, due to the dates coinciding with a major Meghan Markle schedule. If he does decide to go, it will mark his first return to the UK this 2025.
Press and the Public To Be Granted Entry During Prince Harry’s Court Hearing For This Reason
On April 8 and April 9, Prince Harry’s court hearing to review his security arrangements will take place in London.
However, it so happens that April 8 is a big day for Meghan too, as she is set to release her first podcast with Lemonada Media, titled ‘Confessions of A Female Founder.’
That aside, Harry will have to deal with unleashing his, and possibly his family’s, secrets on the world as the appeal proceedings will be conducted mostly in public, with only “short periods in private sessions” reserved for the most confidential information.
The new ruling comes as Harry refuses to give up on his bid to regain his 24/7 taxpayer funded security whenever he visits the UK.
The Court of Appeal judges, Sir Geoffrey Vos, Lord Justice Bean and Lord Justice Edis, revealed that they were motivated to make the ruling due to the principle of “open justice.”
Their order, which was handed down on Wednesday, stated that the public can learn of all non-confidential information shared during the proceedings. This makes it possible for members of the public and press to attend most, if not all, of the proceedings.
The judges reasoned that “it should be possible to conduct most of the appeal in public, with only short periods in private.” This, they said, is as a result of their devotion to keeping to the open justice principle “as faithfully as possible in the particular circumstances of this case.”
When Harry stepped back as a working royal, he lost some of his perks – one of them including his taxpayer funded police protection. His IPP status went out the window too, but that’s a story for another day.
Since losing it in 2020, Harry has been grappling with Home Office to have it reinstalled, citing that his decision to leave the role does not exempt him from the dangers that comes with being born a member of the British Royal Family.
