Netflix to Quietly End Contract with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

A lot has been said about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $100 million Netflix contract, even before 2025 came round for the contract to expire.

Once 2025 clocked in and Meghan returned to Instagram, there were a lot of speculations on which way the Netflix contract would go.

A lot of stories surfaced; some said Netflix plans to renew, but the offer would only be made to Meghan as the streaming giant means to cut Harry; others claimed that if there was a renewal, it would be a non-exclusive one, whilst many more said that Netflix has no zeal to continue their relationship. Here’s what we know about the situation.

Netflix Doesn’t Want Any Sussex Drama As They Let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Contract Expire

Last week, we learned that Meghan Markle’s Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan’ placed 383 in Netflix’s global rankings, way below expectations considering the amount of marketing money that went into it.

It performed a lot better than Harry’s ‘Polo,’ however, which only reached 500,000 households worldwide.

Now, we’re learning Netflix has lost the appetite to continue their working relationship with the couple.

“They’re letting it expire without drama, but there’s no appetite for anything new,” a senior executive at Netflix told Rob Shuter.

Another source weighed in, saying, “She had everything going for her, name, platform, press, and the numbers were dismal. There is no actual renewal, […]The interest just isn’t there anymore. They went from buzzy to background noise.”

What Will Happen To Meghan Markle’s Show ‘With Love, Meghan’ Now That Netflix Has Chosen Not To Renew Contract

Despite the low performance of ‘With Love, Meghan,’ Netflix opted to renew the show shortly after the release of the first one.

However, rumors have claimed that the decision to renew only stemmed from the fact that they’ve already filmed scenes for the second season.

However, it’s safe to assume that there won’t be anymore seasons once the second one premieres this fall.

Despite this, Netflix did not walk away the loser.

“Netflix were clever in that they got a hell of a lot of viewers for the first documentary series, and knew, realistically, it would prove the zenith of content from the Montecito pair,” a source told The Sun.

“They’re not unhappy with how things turned out — they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time,” the source added.

If in the future, Harry and Meghan come up with a great idea for Netflix, the global streaming company would surely be happy to collaborate once again in a one-off basis.
