Life After Lockup, the spinoff from WEtv’s Love After Lockup, premieres a new season on August 1, and Justine and Michael return. A recent teaser brought a backstory of Justine in a discussion about custody that left Michael fuming. Read on for more and see the video.
The Pregnancy Teaser & Synopsis
If you follow the show and the cast members, you probably know that Justine and Michael Persaud announced the birth of a baby girl last year. The new cast arrived with a synopsis, and Cheat Sheet reported that it mentioned an upcoming wedding for the couple.

Following Justine’s challenging high-risk pregnancy, she and Michael have settled down as parents of nine. Now, she has a new project to tackle: a big fat Indian (and non-prison) wedding. But will their finances get in the way of her dreams?
The Clash Over Custody
In the teaser, Justine and Michael went off to see a lawyer. You might recall that she faced complications from a high-risk pregnancy. So, medical professionals advised her to make legal preparations in case of the worst possible outcome.
During her attorney consultation, she expressed her final wishes. Should anything happen to her, she wanted custody of her children granted to her eldest daughter, Kylie. She fully believed that she couldn’t trust Michael to look after her kids properly, especially her special needs child.
Why Show An Old Scene?
Reality TV shows love using flashbacks before a new season for a few key reasons. One reason is to remind viewers of past drama, relationships, or cliffhangers so everyone’s up to speed. Then, they also highlight old conflicts to make fans wonder, ‘Will this blow up again?”‘ and gets them excited for the new season.
In this instance, several viewers had missed the conflict between Kristine and Michael, which proves that, apart from saving WEtv money, the clips are actually useful.

Flashback scenes bring some debate, and this time, plenty of people reacted in the comments. One person wrote, “Kylie was not happy when she told her she wanted the kids to go with her. That’s a lot of pressure to put on her simply because she’s the oldest. She essentially taking away her life by making that choice before taking about it with her first.”
