GH Spoilers: Maurice Benard Breaks Down During Tribute Podcast

General Hospital spoilers reveal that Maurice Benard, who plays Port Charles Mob Boss Sonny Corinthos, recently did a podcast tribute post for Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio), who recently passed away from cancer.
Maurice Bernard Honored Co-Star Tristan Rogers
Tristan announced his cancer diagnosis a mere month ago. However Tristan passed away on August 15, 2025.
Of course, Robert didn’t like Sonny because of Sonny’s criminal past even though Sonny was great friends with his daughter Robyn Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCullough). Sonny had given a lot of money to help with AIDS research.
Benard has been at GH for over thirty years and has worked with many icons. Rogers had been there off and on since 1980 playing Robert.
Tristan’s death happened less than a year after Days Of Our Lives star, Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black. John was pretty much Days Of Our Lives equal to Scorpio only he worked for the ISA.
Maurice Benard Discussed Tristan Roger On His State Of Mind Podcast
Of course, fans know that Maurice has his podcast call State of Mind that airs a new episode on Sundays.
Maurice invented the podcast to talk about no only his own mental health, but to discuss mental health issues with other people in the soap opera genre as well. Years ago, the show finally wrote Sonny’s bipolar discovery into the show years ago.
Instead of a new edition on the podcast, Benard reposted a vTristan discuss he’s original role, “I had no name. I was brought in, expressly, to beat up the hero, Luke [Anthony Geary], and then disappear. A half a day goes by, and I get summoned into Gloria’s [Monty] office. And she said, ‘We really like what you are doing. Would you like to stay?’” [His expression feigned speechlessness] And then he said, ‘Yes.’
Maurice Benard’s Role Was Short At First
Benard’s role was originally supposed to be short term too, but that wasn’t how it ended up being.
Maurice was supposed to only be one a few shows as well but has turned into over thirty years. Benard talked about his struggle with mental health. Bernard has take off a few times to deal with his personal issues.
Benard my not talk about these thinkg all of time., but on his podcast, he wants to be an inspiration for those who need help and are aftaid to ask for it.
Benard is still involved with organizations like NAMI to help bring awareness to mental health Issues. Of course, this is one way that Benard can get his point across to others as well.
