GH Spoilers: Laura Wright Talks ‘Forced Recast’ – What Does It Mean for Michael’s Story

General Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) recently sat down with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to talk about a number of things related to her Port Charles’ character.

One interesting topic was a recast that ‘had to happen’ this year. More on this story, below.

Jack Brennan Recast Was Needed

Wright talked to SOD about the Jack Brennan recast that was forced to happen earlier this year. As fans know, actor Charles Mesure originated the role, and fans were shocked to learn at the end of January that Chris McKenna was filling in.

Mesure decided to leave the ABC soap suddenly, which placed the show in a bind where a quick recast was needed.

Wright talks about McKenna stepping up to the plate and diving in. Unfortunately, the chemistry between Wright and McKenna took second fiddle to the fact that the show needed someone to fill Brennan’s shoes right away.

Wright notes, “There was no choice but to recast; with the amount of story that was already written and in place, it wasn’t able to be rewritten or adjusted, even, at that point because of how committed we were to the story, and that it happened to involve [other characters], like Eden’s [McCoy, Josslyn Jacks].”

The good news is that, considering Wright and McKenna get along well behind the scenes, all’s well that ends well.

Also, the storyline seems to be heading in a direction where sparks won’t matter once Carly finds out what Brennan has been up to, so there’s that, too. But, could what Wright said in her SOD interview relate to Michael Corinthos (last played Chad Duell) at all?

Michael Corinthos Is Needed In Port Charles, Stat!

GH writers crafted a nice storyline for Michael’s departure earlier this year. Getting caught in that penthouse explosion and suffering third-degree burns so that he was sent to a clinic in Germany to recover was the perfect, short-term solution to an exit.

With that said, between his divorce/custody battle with Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen), the drama with her Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) affair, and his other pregnant baby momma, Sasha Gilmore Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) – Michael is needed back home. Will they finally choose a recast to step into Michael’s shoes?

Unlike the Charles Mesure situation, the show may have a little more time to find the ‘perfect’ Michael, especially since it seems that Chad Duell may not return to the soap.

Still, the daytime drama has set up some explosive storylines for his comeback, so will Michael return sooner rather than later?
