General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal a previous GH star shared startling information on social media regarding issues occurring behind the scenes.
The soap star described the environment as “toxic” backstage, with fans pointing fingers at the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini.
Fans Were Angry At The ABC Soap Being Preempted Three Times This Last Week
General Hospital fans were extremely frustrated this week when they switched on their TVs, only to discover that their favorite show was missing.
The ABC soap was pulled from the schedule for several days due to sports broadcasts. While viewers are accustomed to news breaking into daytime soap operas, it seemed unreasonable for General Hospital to be removed from the lineup with so many dedicated sports channels available.
The soap did not air on Tuesday, October 1, or Wednesday, October 2, or Thursday, October 3 because of the MLB Wild Card games leading up to the World Series.
To make matters worse, the games were delayed to start after GH in most regions, and reruns of GH were shown instead; granted, they chose which reruns wisely, but still unnecessary!
Monica Quartermaine’s Funeral Week Was Not An Appropriate Choice To Preempt
This week is not ideal for the soap to be off the air; the ABC soap is currently paying tribute to actress Leslie Charleson, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
She portrayed Monica Quartermaine on the show for many years; recently, Monica was found deceased.
Although the funeral has taken place, the reading of her will is still pending, and fans are eager to find out who will inherit Monica’s house. Additionally, a former GH star has disclosed issues behind the scenes, describing a toxic work atmosphere caused by ‘office politics’; what is going on with the ABC daytime drama?
Charles Mesure, known for his role as Jack Brennan, has spoken out about the ‘toxic’ environment backstage on the ABC soap.
Charles Mesure Left The Soap Due To The Toxic Work Environment Backstage
The Australian actor joined GH as Jack Brennan in 2023, and he unexpectedly departed from the role in early 2025 just as Brennan’s relationship with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) was becoming intense.
The soap replaced him with One Life to Live veteran Chris McKenna after a few months; the announcement of Charles Mesure’s exit was a significant surprise for fans. Viewers struggled to accept Chris McKenna in the role, partly due to the character’s loss of the Australian accent.
An article from Soap Opera Digest during the casting transition suggested that Charles Mesure left due to the demanding workload. Soap operas are known for their brief rehearsal periods and extensive dialogue.
Charles Mesure Disputed The SOD Article
Charles Mesure refutes the notion that his departure was linked to the work itself; he recently took to Twitter to respond to the SOD article from several months back.
The actor stated that he left due to the circumstances behind the scenes on the Los Angeles set where the show is filmed.
“The ‘article’ completely misrepresents an old and irrelevant interview- I truly enjoyed every part of my work on GH and appreciated collaborating with every scene partner. I take pride in every single scene we created with the Brennan character.” But he further remarked,
“However, I despised every element of the toxic, borderline sinister backstage politics on GH”; Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) echoed similar sentiments after her dismissal from the show in 2024.
Fans Are Blaming Frank Valentini
Frank Valentini became the executive producer of General Hospital in 2012-before that, he held the same position at One Life to Live until its cancellation.
Many fans blamed Valentini for the backstage issues that Charles Mesure addressed. “Frank Valentini should be fired-especially considering how he treated Kelly Monaco, who was with the show for 21 years” posted one fan.
Another, “Thank you for having the courage to speak out; it’s what we all know has been happening since Frank took charge.”” From an outsider’s view, it’s Frank and his favorites-not naming anyone, but they are the cast members who receive the most attention…for the past 30 years.”
