‘GH’ Cynthia Watros Talks, Nina’s Dynamics with Ava, Willow & More

General Hospital spoilers reveal that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) has complicated relationships with just about everyone in Port Charles.

However, the “frenemy-ship” between Nina and Ava Jerome (Maura West) is particularly interesting.

During an interview with TV Insider, Watros discussed Ava, Willow Tait Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen), and much more. Keep reading to get all the details.

Nina Reeves’ Sins

Over the years, Nina has committed a lot of crimes and sins. This goes back way before the Nixon Falls storyline. Nina even stole Ava’s baby, Avery Corinthos (currently played by Ava and Grace Scarola).

However, they somehow managed to get past that only to be torn again over a man, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

Working with Maura West

During the interview, Watros was quick to compliment and praise her co-stars. Say what you want about Nina, but the actress – Cynthia – is very gracious and humble. She said this about working with Ava’s portrayer, West.

“I love working with Maura. I think that really shows on camera. We don’t run our scenes together, typically. We just show up on set on the day. When we did the scenes where I found out about her double-crossing me with Sonny, we could have played them two ways – screaming at each other or the hurt. They have similar traits. There’s the pain of having to let go of a friendship. There’s some anger in there.

We didn’t talk about it. But we went on set, that’s where we both wanted to design the scene — not screaming at each other but weaving through all those emotions. We hugged each other afterwards. I said, ‘Hopefully, we’ll be friends again on TV someday.’ And here we are! We’re friends again.”

Secrets & Scandals

Although Ava and Nina are friends again, it’s complicated. There’s a lot of history and Nina still has secrets she’s keeping. The General Hospital star said Nina now has a good relationship with her daughter, Willow. However, Nina came up with the crazy idea to seduce Drew Cain Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) to keep him distracted from Willow.

At the same time, Nina is desperate to make up for her sins as well as the lost year with Willow on GH. Cynthia mentioned that Nina’s love for Willow is “so pure.”

Of course, Nina wishes she could have both of her daughters (Willow has a dead twin sister, the evil Nelle Benson, played by Chloe Lanier). All Nina wants is her family as that has been the thing constantly ripped away from her throughout her life.
