GH Cameron Mathison Explains The Reason Why Drew Cain Is So Despicable

General Hospital spoilers note that fans could sense a ‘who dun it’ storyline brewing where Drew Cain is concerned, and during the Tuesday, September 2 episode, the character was shot by an unknown suspect, twice, in his own home.

Actor Cameron Mathison spoke to Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about his storyline and the reason why his character is so awful.

What Happened To Drew Cain?

General Hospital spoilers remind fans that Drew was one of Port Charles’s top heroes until he was released from prison in late February 2024. Since then, the man has spiraled into the top villain on the show, crossing many lines in recent months.

From ruining his nephew’s marriage by actively pursuing his wife to sleeping with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) while he was ‘wooing’ Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen); Drew has further dug a terrible hole in the hearts of GH viewers with his some stunts as of late, which includes, manipulating Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) into believing Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) didn’t love him anymore, and alienating Scout Quartermaine (Cosette Abinante) from her extended family (not to mention blackmailing Portia Robinson[Brook Kerr] and launching a fraud investigation against Stella Henry [Vernee Watson])!

Cameron Mathison Explains

Mathison goes into a little detail about why his character has gone to extreme and terrible measures lately, saying, “Obviously, everybody hates me like crazy, but at the same time, they had to do that for the last four or five months.”

He goes on to note, “They can’t just have people not like me. They have to have people want to kill me! And in order to have multiple people want to kill you, you’ve got to be pretty despicable — and they’ve done a really good job with that with Drew!”

Mathison also told SOD, “Every time I read a script, I’m like, ‘Oh, my god, Drew, are you kidding me?!’ ” He adds, “And then I’m like, ‘Yup! Let’s go. Let’s just dive in!’ I like to just really let it fester and have it come out, and it’s been interesting, and it’s been challenging.”
