The ABC Soap Won Big At The Daytime Emmys, To Remove It From Streaming Makes No  Sense

Soap stars from NBC, CBS, and ABC came together at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, on October 17, 2025, for the 2025 Daytime Emmys.

Mario Lopez was the host of this glamorous event; General Hospital, which typically ranks third in viewership, won several major awards.

Actress Nancy Lee Grahn received the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Alexis Davis, a character she has portrayed since 1996.

This marked her 11th nomination; she had previously won the Outstanding Supporting Actress award in 2012. Jonathan Jackson earned the title of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his short return as Lucky Spencer last summer; his sixth Daytime Emmy for that character.

The Daytime Emmy Ceremony Didn’t Air On TV, And Was Only Available Streaming

General Hospital also received the Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Drama Writing, and the 2025 Daytime Emmy ceremony did not broadcast on TV this year.

It typically airs on CBS but was only accessible via streaming; fans were unhappy about this oversight, and now they are furious that they can’t find new episodes of the soap online.

General Hospital shifted to an earlier timeslot for many viewers back in 2012, and fans eventually adapted to the change.

As streaming services gained popularity, episodes of the soap became available to stream on Hulu a day after they aired on traditional television- ABC and Hulu are both owned by Disney.

Soaps that air on CBS are available for streaming on Paramount+ and Days of Our Lives permanently transitioned from NBC to Peacock in 2022.

Why Isn’t An Emmy-Winning Soap Not Streaming?

General Hospital fans were shocked to find that the latest episode of the soap opera was missing from Hulu; one viewer, who bundled Hulu with Disney+, reported losing access to new GH episodes. “I can watch all my other shows on Hulu through my Disney+ account, but not GH,” they expressed on social media, and many others shared that they faced the same problem.

Another fan noted that GH is one of the few shows not available for download on Hulu for later viewing.

In August, Variety reported that Hulu will be phased out as a separate app and will merge with Disney+ by the end of 2026. This might explain why General Hospital episodes are not yet on Disney+, even though they are still accessible on standalone Hulu for the time being.
