This week, the news arrived that there will be a new soap podcast called Soapy. Interestingly, plenty of TV stars from a range of shows will feature on it. However, it seems uncertain if fans will be all that interested in it. Read on to find out why.
The Press Release
Paramount Press Express revealed the new podcast will start airing on July 8 and will “run through September 30th, 2025.” It’s hosted by “Greg Rikkart,” known for his roles as Leo Sark and Kevin Fisher on Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless, Then there’s “Rebbeca Budig,” who played Taylor Hamilton on The Bold and the Beautiful.

It will be available on “Audacy and other platforms,” and “full episodes will be released through the CBS YouTube channel.” Are you getting excited yet? Well, if you are a die-hard soap fan, you might like to know the line-up. It kicks off with “Eric Braeden“ (Victor Newman from Y&R). Then you can see in quick succession, “Deidre Hall,” “Shelia Ducksworth” (exec producer of Beyond the Gates), and “Lauralee Bell.”
Fans Don’t Seem Interested?
There’s actually a lot of other people who will feature on the podcast. They include people like “Maurice Benard” (General Hospital), “Tracey Bregman” and “Christian LeBlanc” (The Young and the Restless), “Scott Clifton,” “Cameron Mathison” (General Hospital), “Karla Mosley” and “Tamara Tunie” (Beyond the Gates), and many more.
Still, when Redditors saw the news on the r/youngandtherestless sub, reactions certainly seemed underwhelming. In fact, the sub, which has ten thousand members, many of whom are active, had only eight people bother to reply after two days. And very few of them seemed very positive. One positive person wrote, “This should be great!”
A few others talked about how it would be good for soaps, but didn’t say they would tune in.
Negative Reactions
Nobody is denying that such a podcast would be a good thing to drive the audience to the different shows. But that doesn’t mean it will be greatly supported. What were the negative reactions, and why was there so little uptake? Let’s let the people who commented on the Soapy podcast news speak for themselves. Here are their feelings:
- O no. Cringe…I guess RB has some job security through the fall.
- Agreed. Good for the genre….Not my cup of tea to listen to actors talk like they do important work. Not into self glamorization. Thats just me.
- Their twitter reparte paid off.
