Soapy Talk With Deidre Hall
The new Soapy podcast, hosted by daytime drama vets Rebecca Budig (The Bold and the Beautiful’s Dr. Taylor Hayes), along with Greg Rikaart (Days’ Leo Stark), released its Episode 2, and Deidre Hall was featured as their guest this time around.
Hall talked about her long, soapy career, some major moments onscreen, as well as her time on The Young and the Restless.
With that said, Hall also touched upon the fact that she almost didn’t take on the role of Marlena Evans.
Deidre Hall’s Shocking Story
Hall explains that while during screen testing producers try not to have the same people in the room testing, but she did happen to see a couple of women. Hall thought, “Oh my word, look who’s testing for this. I tested and I got a call saying that I had gotten it.”
Based on the competition that was there, Hall believed that if producers chose her, the others must have turned it down first, so why would they do that unless something was wrong, so she turned it down, too.
Her agent called back three weeks later, questioning her on her move as Hall had relayed wanting to work on a soap.
She told him something must’ve been wrong with the part if everyone turned it down, and this is when her agent assured her that she was their first choice!
Thank goodness she did, because the Marlena Evans character is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role when it comes to the land of daytime drama, right?
