Prince Harry is the name on everyone’s lips this time of the year, and it’s for a number of reasons. First, it was because he renewed his contract with Netflix – albeit a much more downgraded one.
Second is the royal reconciliation stuff we can’t stop talking about. And third is the big news that he could lose yet another charity so soon after voluntarily walking away from Sentebale.
Prince Harry may say he was forced out, but the decision to leave was completely up to him. It might not be the same with Invictus Games as calls for him to exit the charity reach new highs. Here’s what we know about the developing situation.
Prince Harry Encouraged To Take A Step Back In Order To Let Invictus Games Thrive
Last month, I read a rather interesting piece by Edward Fortescue that listed the ways Harry’s divisive image has become way more harmful to Invictus than helpful.
He finished his little piece with some very strong words, which I should heretofore quote, “Invictus must cast them out. Not politely. Not discreetly.
Ruthlessly.” Interesting words, then he goes to argue that “every second they remain near this sacred institution is a second too long. Our wounded deserve dignity, not drama. Service, not spectacle. Honour, not Harry. Enough.” Pure poetry, don’t you think?
Now, another source is coming forward to tell us why it would be better if Harry dropped out of the Invictus Games world completely.
“The duke has become an increasingly divisive figure, particularly in the Armed Forces,” a source told the Daily Mail. “And that is not good for Invictus.”
“We are all about bringing people together and inspiring those who have suffered hardship. Now, Invictus is firmly established, it might be better if the duke took a step back.”
“If Harry were to resign as patron of Invictus, I’m sure they would have no trouble finding a new royal patron,” an insider told the outlet.
The next Invictus Games is set to take place in Birmingham, England, in 2027, with the Prince reportedly sending invites to several members of the Royal Family.
However, it’s uncertain whether anyone would be interested in honoring the invitation. Even casting aside the royal rift, there’s still Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday on the way.
Nevertheless, with Harry jetting back to the UK to meet his father this month, they might come up with means to make it work. FYI, I heard Prince William exited the reconciliation chat very early on.
