The search for missing Camila Mendoza Olmos, 19, was interrupted by a tragic discovery in northwest Bexar County. A body was found. While it seems that no true crime was involved, the body of the girl hasn’t yet been identified as the 19-year-old who disappeared on Christmas Eve in San Antonio. Read on for more about the update.

No Foul Play Suspected

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar declared that they located a corpse at about 4:45 PM in the vicinity of the Burning Bush Landscaping Company. Of note, it is that the company’s situated very close to Camila’s home. In fact, it is only about 100 yards away.

Obviously, the community takes the news hard. ABC reported that the medical examiner first has to confirm the identity before the family can take possession of the remains.

Still, it could easily be Camila Mendoza Olmos as more information came to light. For a start, there didn’t seem to be any evidence of foul play. And, apparently, she struggled with personal depression issues.

A Weapon Was Located

Furthermore, a weapon was located. Reportedly, someone in the family is missing a firearm, so naturally, it might be the one with the body. However, ballistic checks are yet to confirm whether it was used. Salazar mentioned there were some indicators of self-harm.

It’s been a week since Camila disappeared, and her family and community all carried out a massive search for her. Apparently, her mom thought her daughter had taken a walk. Last seen searching around in the car, she went off but left her phone behind, which seemed unusual. Perhaps she had hidden the weapon in the vehicle?

Camera Footage Helped

The Texas Department of Public Safety had set up a CLEAR Alert for Camila after her disappearance on Christmas Eve. Obviously, the alert indicated that the police thought that she was in an extremely dangerous situation.

Surveillance footage showed her walking away and later, a neighbor’s dashcam in Caspian Springs captured a person matching her description on Wildhorse Parkway.

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security got involved and they kept an eye on border crossings and international flights just in case she was going abroad.

Police are still working the case and await the final results of the autopsy. No doubt, everyone in San Antonio probably feels the tragic outcome during the festive season.

Other Missing Persons

When Elizabeth Vargas from NewsNation reported on YouTube that a body was found, she also reported on other folks who vanished in the last few days in San Antonio. However, they are not the body that was found. By elimination, it seems pretty certain that it is that of Camila Mendoza Olmos

She said:

Authorities.. found a second teenage girl. She went missing last night. 14-year-old Sophia Peters…has been found safe. Meanwhile, a third girl, a 17-year-old, Angelica Johnson…believed to have vanished from her San Antonio home in the last few days…made contact… and she left willingly. She’ll be coming home in a couple of days.

True Crime Followers React

In the comments section of the video, most people accept that Camila ended her own life. One person wrote, “Prayers to this sweet girl’s family. And anyone dealing with depression.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • This makes me sick to my stomach. Depression can be so tragic. If you know someone who battles this, encourage them to get help.
  • So THAT’S why she left her phone at home.. she KNEW what she was gonna do.. depression is always SILENT but deadly… R.I.P.
  • Definitely not the ending we were praying for. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones. I’m so sorry.
