It turns out that Anna Kepner’s grandparents, Barbara and Jeffrey, were also on the Carnival cruise liner when they discovered their granddaughter had died and been stuffed under a bed. That alone was new information, and they helped to explain what had happened with Anna before she died.

The Grandparents Explain

Sharing a video by ABC News, a Good Morning America panel talked about an interview that the couple gave and what they had said. What emerged from the grandparents was that Anna Kepner complained of feeling unwell and went to her cabin.

Later, she returned and joined them “in the casino.” After she lost her money, she retired for the night. And, that was the last time the grandparents saw Anna alive.

In the meantime, two other siblings slept in the same cabin as Anna Kepner. One of them, her biological brother, went off to get some photos. What happened next isn’t fully known. However, her step-sibling, who was also sharing the cabin, is now a suspect. Still, the grandparents insist there was nothing untoward in their relationship

The 16-Year Old ‘Cant Remember’

Despite him not being named an official suspect by the FBI, viewers learned from a previous video covering a family custody dispute that the 16-year-old was identified as a suspect. Allegedly, he was later taken to a hospital and now lives with another family member.

The focus fell on the step-sibling, who was interviewed by federal investigators. According to grandmother Barbara, who sat in on his interview, she described him as an “emotional wreck.” Notably, he claimed he “couldn’t remember” anything. However, she also claimed that the 16- year-old “had demons.”

Viewers React

The loss of memory detail garnered plenty of attention from true crime followers. In the comment section, many people had strong reactions. As soon as the grandparents talked about how the boy couldn’t recall anything, many critics immediately decided he was guilty as heck.

One viewer opined, When the grandmother said, “he had demons”, she spoke volumes.

Here are a few more responses from the discussion area:

  • The whole family is covering for him , first the hospital visit and now amnesia …
  • He knows what he did.
  • So basically a killer can killed someone and just say they don’t remember and walk free? How is he not arrested yet is mind blowing.
  • That’s his defense? Good luck with that! Lock him up!!!
  • They are already attempting to build a possible defense to excuse the stepbrother’s actions.
  • Doesn’t matter whether he remembers him killing her or not. He was the only one going in and out of the room that Anna was in. The grandparents said that authorities told them this after viewing the video footage.
  • The old “I don’t remember what happened” defence. That never works.
