Seven Years Of Waiting

For seven frustrating years, the community waited for some sort of justice for young Matthew. But eventually, last week, his mom, Amanda Maison entered into a plea deal. There’s a catch though, and part of the deal means she’ll have to testify against her then-boyfriend, 28-year-old Maurice Houle.

Only facing second-degree murder, she admitted that she allowed continuous abuse to her child. Additionally, she participated in hiding the boy’s injuries.

It’s been six months since she first appeared in court over the death of her three-year-old son. The new development means that next year, her ex-partner, Maurice Houle, who faces charges of first-degree murder will face the music. For now, he’s being held in the St. Clair County Jail.

Withholding Medical Help

During her hearing, the woman finally admitted that the violence seemed extreme. For instance, she’d beaten her son’s head against a wall during a “military time out,” per People. And, the attack was so severe that the wall ended up broken.

Instead of getting medical help, the child’s injuries were ignored because she feared intervention by CPS. Notably, the prosecutors agree that the death of the child was deliberate. Allegedly, the entire crime was planned to “free up space” for their own biological child.

Allegedly, they plotted the death when Maison became pregnant. However, they finally opted for an abortion for financial reasons. So, all of the abuse on little Matthew was for nothing. And, it seemed horrific.

The court noted that they kept locking him in his room without food or water and used pillows to suffocate him. Furthermore, the harsh “military time-out” periods were regularly carried out.

Resisting Arrest

Houle ended up detained on April 11, this year. During the arrest, he allegedly resisted violently with eight police officers. So much so, that one officer was injured. Of course, that only added to the charges, and he also faces allegations of resisting and obstructing police.

The lifeless body of Matthew was found in his bed on the 19th of February 2018. Later, the death examination identified blunt force trauma as the cause of death, and suffocation was a possibility, too.

The unfortunate event attracted a great deal of attention and led to the long-standing “Justice for Matthew” movement. Started by the maternal grandparents of the child, they can finally find some peace and closure. For now, true crime viewers need to wait to find out the result of any sentencing.

Responses From The Public

When WDIV Detroit reported on the arrest of Amanda Maison and the charges against her, many people felt shocked and outraged. One viewer wrote in the comments section of YouTube, “Women gotta start loving themselves before wanting love from a man smh . Pray this baby get justice.”

Meanwhile others could only describe the terrible ordeal as “evil.” Some crimes seem too horrific to put into words, and when justice takes so long to arrive, it seems especially bad.
