Tyler Perry Reacts To The Long Awaited Sequel Of ‘Sister Act 3 ‘Taking So Long’ To Make

Tyler Perry Reacts To The Long Awaited Sequel Of 'Sister Act 3 'Taking So Long' To MakeThe producer of “Mea Culpa” Terry Perry has shared his feelings about the unnecessary delay of the third installment of the legendary ‘Sister Act” movie starring Whoopi Goldberg as the lead actress.

Back in 2018, Perry and Goldberg appeared in “Watch What Happens Live,” and casually teased part 3 of the movie, and two years down the line, their pitch was approved as Disney announced in 2020 that there would be a “Sister Act 3” movie.

But then, after the announcement, not much has been heard about the upcoming movie except from Goldberg who played the character Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer who had to disguise as Reverend Sister Mary Clarence while in witness protection. Since the announcement, Goldberg had been rallying around trying to recruit all the original casts of the movie.

In a recent interview with “Entertainment Tonight’s” Rachel Smith, the “Acrimony” writer shared his frustration with the amount of time it’s taking Disney to release the movie. “I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long, like I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this,” said Perry to the outlet while adding, “When I’m outside producing with — you know, Disney’s a huge, wonderful company, but I really want to get this movie and Whoopi really wants to get this movie.”

Tyler Perry — On Goldberg’s Recruiting Spree

Before Disney announced that “Sister Act 3” would be happening, Goldberg revealed in an October 2020 appearance on “The Late Late Show” with James Corden, “For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it. And then quite recently, it turns out, that may not be true. People may want to see it. So, we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”

After the announcement, the 68-year-old took it upon herself to try to bring back some, if not all of the original casts. Last year, Goldberg made a public appeal to Maggie Smith who played the role of Mother Superior in the movie to reprise her role in the upcoming installment.

“I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you, because I just can’t do it with anybody but you,” Said Goldberg during her appearance on the British talk show “Loose Women.” She continued, “So, if you need me to come over here and shoot it and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do,” she added. “But we don’t want to do it without you, Maggie.”

Earlier this month, Goldberg asked Sheryl Lee Ralph who played Florence Watson in “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” to also reprise her role during her visit to “The View” to promote the third installment of “Abbott Elementary” in which she starred as Barbara Howard.

Goldberg told Ralph, 67, “Something that’s gonna happen here in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sister Act 2, the producers here at The View are working on putting together a reunion,” she went on to add, “And we’re gonna try to get as many cast members on to share memories from the movie. Would you do us the honor of coming back? And as soon as we know when it is, we’ll do that.”
