Royal Family Quietly Deletes Prince Harry’s Statement Defending Then-Girlfriend Meghan Markle

Royal Family Quietly Deletes Prince Harry's Statement Defending Then-girlfriend Meghan MarkleThe Palace has quietly removed a lengthy statement Prince Harry’s spokesperson released in 2016 defending Meghan Markle from the “outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”

It’s been four year since the couple found their way to America after their 2018 marriage, and while there’s been a lot of ups and downs since then – it certainly hasn’t been easy on both fronts – Harry and Meghan are keen on moving on from any and all royal drama. It seems the Royal Family is following suit.

Prince Harry’s 2016 Statement Confirming That He’s Dating Meghan Markle Is No Longer Up On the Royal Family Website

Prince Harry’s statement from 2016 confirming his relationship with the ‘Suits’ alum has been erased from the Royal Family website.

Per a report by Newsweek, the internet archive site Wayback Machine was able to access the link on Dec. 3, 2023, but a week later it was gone, showing that it was removed during that timeframe.

In the 2016 statement, Harry’s spokesperson defended Meghan Markle against the barrage of sexist and racist comments that have plagued her and her loved ones.

It claimed that there had been “attempts from reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry to her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by papers to her ex-boyfriend; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.”

It went on to proclaim that Prince Harry is worried over Meghan’s safety in light of the harassments and “is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.”

He continued: “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game.’ He strongly disagrees. This is not a game — it is her life and his.”

Harry had reflected on this statement in his bestselling memoir ‘Spare,’ where he recalled receiving the advice that silence was the best option.

However, he and Meghan decided to push for a “course correction immediately.”

“We needed a statement out there,” he wrote in the book. “Within a day we had a draft. Strong, precise, angry, honest.”

The Sussexes have continued to battle misinformation and controversies surrounding their romance, their marriage and their children since then.
