Learning that Adam was the father of Sally’s child underscored Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) second slot position. He was Sally’s second romantic choice, after his brother.

Of course, it could be argued that Adam is in the second slot and Nick is third. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) was the first man Sally fell for after arriving in Genoa City, Wisconsin.

Whatever position handicappers may place Nick, Sally is in love with him. Whether that love is as deep as what she felt or still feels for Adam remains to be seen.

Being scientifically confirmed as the father of the baby Sally is having provides Adam with a high card. While he is disappointed, she does not want to reconcile, Adam also seems much more at ease since learning the paternity test result.

Grossman’s character, like his father, thinks strategically. So, Adam knows that the indefinite tie he has to Sally on this most important issue allows him to maintain a legitimate tie to the woman he loves.

There is no need to create and execute elaborate schemes to try and get her attention or to sabotage Nick. Instead, the baby girl Adam and Sally are expecting this summer will reflect the undeniable depth of their bond.

Sally is just getting used to being a mother. This is her first child and Adam is happy to help her navigate the joyous event.

Nick is sticking with the woman he loves. He also provides parental experience that will benefit Sally. But Nick’s ability to connect with Sally about the baby she is having will fall below Adam’s superior position.

This storyline is well-written and includes the classic soap opera scenario where one woman loves two men who happen to be brothers.

Sally is with Nick right now. Adam will be the father of her child forever. Who she spends the rest of her life with remains an open question on Y&R.
