Rumors have been swirling that Kevin Costner’s scheduling demands could prematurely end Yellowstone, but are they true?
Recently, rumors have been flying that Kevin Costner is bringing Yellowstone to an early end due to his scheduling demands. However, maybe this is gossip about the hit modern Western series. Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, believes it is the latter, but added it is above his “pay grade.”

Kevin Costner, who famously plays John Dutton on the modern Western series, Yellowstone has been in the headlines again. Rumors were that his scheduling demands were bringing the Paramount Network show to an end. However, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, said:
The news that’s come out recently about the show is, you know, it’s above my pay grade. Different people making decisions.
Bentley added that he did know they are still “working on it… working on working things out with everyone, to make sure we shoot.” However, he added that he is confident they will continue, as they always have before. Wes added, “I think it’s probably a bit of drama over nothing.”
How the Yellowstone rumors started
Deadline reported earlier this month that Yellowstone co-creator, Taylor Sheridan, along with Paramount Global and Paramount Network, was planning to end the show. They were reportedly to create a new show about the Dutton family, with Matthew McConaughey to star. The outlet reported that the “crux of the issue” was Costner’s scheduling demands.
Source told the outlet that Costner, who plays John Dutton in the show, wanted to work only 50 days for the first part of season 5 of Yellowstone. Moreover, he only wanted to work for a week for the second part. At the time, a Paramount Network spokesperson had “no news to report,” adding that Costner “is a big part of Yellowstone, and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.”
Meanwhile, Marty Singer, Costner’s attorney, later denied the reports. Speaking to Puck News, Singer said, “The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie.” Singer added, “It’s ridiculous – and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second. As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”
Kevin Costner and Horizon
In the meantime, Costner, who won a Golden Globe for Best Television – Drama Series for his performance in Yellowstone, is, admittedly, busy. He is developing an epic Western titled Horizon in which he will be starring, directing and producing. Describing the movie, Costner said he is planning the project as “four different movies” set to release “about every three months.”
