When the docuseries aired, a lot of people turned on TLC because they felt that the show had enabled an abusive family for years. Well, a lot of people already knew about Josh Duggar and the molestation of his sisters. Actually, fans applauded Jill Dillard who apparently fought back against Josh. So, they were proud of her when she was seen in the show describing life as a young person. The Duggars were raised under the tenets of Bill Gothard from the Institute of Basic Life Principles. And, they adopted the Pearl books on childrearing.

While there was a lot of coverage of Josh Duggar and his molestation, there was also footage of Jim Holt and Bobye. Interestingly, she and her son currently have protective orders again him. They were besties of Jim Bob Duggar back in the day. Anyway, they testified and it seemed like a horrible situation for the girls in the family. The Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets docuseries also talked about obedience training. Michael Pearl’s book made raising children equate to raising a dog with rods and sticks.

Talking about the Willis family, follower Jennifer Evans-Green said, “There was no shortage of abuse going on.” Not everyone remembers the TLC show. In short, they comprised 14 family members who were skilled at dancing and music. Initially, they did well on America’s Got Talent.

Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets fans might be horrified to learn that what Josh did to his sisters seemed less than what Toby Willis did. The Daily Beast reported in 2017, that the patriarch of the Christian musical show, Toby Willis, was arrested and charged with raping a child by taking her from her bed. Later, the Tennessee-based family went on and dropped an album called Speak My Mind after their dad pleaded guilty to four counts of rape.

Unlike Counting On, which returned, even though TLC knew about Josh’s abuse, The Willis Family was dropped completely after only two seasons. At the time, TLC said in a statement “that it had thoroughly checked all the Willis family members prior to signing them to the show and were “shocked” at the news of Toby’s arrest.”

Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets viewers might be happy to know that Toby Willis is currently serving forty years in prison for his crimes.
