Prince Harry Reveals Prince William “Bristled” When He Shared This Wedding Detail with Him

Let’s take a trip down “Spare” memory lane and learn how arguments about facial hair divided the brothers during Harry and Meghan‘s 2018 wedding. According to Harry, “livid” William made his big day that less brighter because of jealousy.

Once upon a time, our very own Prince of Wales spotted a full chin of hair, but then, mysteriously, that all went away.

On the other hand, Harry’s been spotting his since he came of age and has been doing so until this very moment. Was it preference? Harry disagrees.

While the world kept busy learning about bridesmaid dress feuds, father-in-laws and tiaras, the brothers were busy actually battling a whole different problem; facial hair.

As Harry pointed out in his memoir, he had approached his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, days before the wedding and gotten permission to keep his signature beard.

When He Told His Brother William About The Queen’s Assent To His Proposal That He Keep His Beard For The Big Day, It Didn’t Sit Well With Him.

He wrote: “But then I explained it to my brother and he… bristled? Not the done thing, he said. Military rules, so forth.”

“A beard was thought by some to be a clear violation of protocol and long-standing norms, especially since I was getting married in my Army uniform,” Harry noted in the book, going on to share how he showed William pictures of past monarchs who wed with a beard, including Edward VII and George V.

This allegedly did not appease William however, who claimed he only got the Queen’s permission because he, Harry, put her in a tight spot.

The row would carry on for a week, both over the phone and in person. Nevertheless, when things came to a head, Harry said he realized William’s anger over it had less to do with traditions and more to do with the fact that he himself had been denied.

“Ah, there it was. After he’d come back from an assignment with Special Forces, Willy was sporting a full beard, and someone told him to be a good boy, run along and shave it. He hated the idea of me enjoying a perk he’d been denied,” Harry wrote.

Despite the bitter feud, Harry kept his beard for the wedding at St. George’s chapel.
