Kevin Costner and upcoming Western movie Horizon
As reported by Collider, Horizon will tell the story of 170 characters over a 15-year period, which will lead to multiple movies, being re-edited for TV. The movie was first announced in January 2022 and has been described as Costner’s passion project. In fact, not only will he direct the movie, but will also star in it, produce it and finance the movie through his Territory Pictures production company.
At the time, the Yellowstone lead star told Deadline that America’s expansion into the West was fraught with peril and intrigue. He said this was due to the natural elements, interactions with indigenous peoples who lived on the land and the “determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it,” adding:
Horizon tells the story of that journey in an honest and forthcoming way, highlighting the points of view and consequences of the characters’ life and death decisions.
Costner plans to break Horizon into “four different movies,” to be released “about every three months.”
Project comes at a difficult time in Costner’s personal life
