Y&R LEAK: Ashland Locke Sticking Around, GC Not Safe From His Charms

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Robert Newman has impressed showrunners so much in his short time as Ashland Locke that the character is sticking around—for now, with anything possible. Our inside source at CBS spills that the former Guiding Light star has turned what was meant to be a short term recast into a potential long term gig. Is anyone surprised?

Daytime viewers who witnessed Newman as Josh Lewis on GL knew all along the guy can act. The only problem was that he was often acting as the other half of one of daytime’s legendary couples Jeva, with the scene stealing Kim Zimmer as Reva Lewis. As such Newman was often second fiddle but a Stradivarius nonetheless.

Secondly he was a good guy on GL, and some fans weren’t so sure he could pull off the mean and nastiness associated with the Locke Ness Monster. They were wrong.

Newman has shown that he can be as sour as he is sweet onscreen. Richard Burgi originated the role of Ashland and he played the smarmy evil doer to perfection. But Newman has put his own spin on the ruthless businessman and it’s pure gold.

The only question now is, what direction do the writers take Ashland. He’s a smart rogue, and eye candy to boot.

According to our CBS insider the dice has not been rolled yet in terms of what Ashland does next—or what could be done to him. It’s too late for a May Sweeps whodunit but it looked for all the world like that would be the character’s fate. Is there anyone in GC who doesn’t loathe the traitor?

It’s not too late for that in the future, but for now Ashland has been chem tested with Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) and dare we say it, Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case). Diane makes sense since she is a fellow scoundrel and they have little Harrison in common. And yes, Sharon could seem like a long shot but sparks flew when she confronted him over his cancer lie.
