The Young and the Restless

The Young and The Restless spoilers tease that Sharon Newman’s loved ones rally around her as she faces a difficult challenge, this week on The Young and the Restless; the question everyone has is, can she beat this?

Sharon Newman Is Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that this week, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) found a lump in her breast. In The Young and The Restless weekly preview, there is first a flashback of her ultrasound, when she found out that the lump was solid, and not merely a non-dangerous fluid-filled cyst. She had a core needle biopsy and she was told the mass is indeed, cancerous.

Next, in the preview video, she tells Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) that there’s something she needs to tell him. He tells her that a lot of people care about her and want to know what’s going on. A tearful Sharon tells Nick that she has cancer. Nick is strong for her and tells her that she doesn’t have to handle everything on her own.

Sharon Newman’s Daughters, Boyfriend And Family Respond

Nick and Sharon’s youngest daughter, Faith Newman (Alivia Alyn Lind) is afraid; first she sits with her mother on the couch and cries, and tells her she’s scared. Sharon stays strong for Faith and tells her that she’s not going anywhere. Then there is a scene where Sharon’s boyfriend, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso), her oldest daughter Mariah Copeland, (Camryn Grimes) Faith, and Nick all gather around Sharon as she herself breaks down and cries.

Faith sits on the couch with her dad, Nick, and cries as she asks him “How could this happen to her, Dad?” Nick assures Faith that her mother is going to be okay. Then there is a scene of Rey and Sharon sitting presumably in an oncologist’s office and she asks the doctor, “Can I beat this?”

Millions Of Women Face This Fear Every Day

Millions of women face this fear every day, finding a lump in their breast and making the frightening trip to the doctor to find out if it is cancer or something much less worrisome, like a benign cyst. Many struggle with their fear too long and do not get medical care quickly enough and lose the battle, having put off what should be done right away, while there is the best chance of recovery from the disease.

Having a cancerous lump in the breast in the early stages does not mean that a mastectomy and losing all your hair is inevitable; many times the cancer has not spread from the lump and only the lump is removed and no chemotherapy is necessary, although it may be advised as a precaution. The writers and producers of The Young and The Restless, and the organization “CBS Cares” have chosen to put Sharon Newman in a storyline arc dealing with breast cancer as a public service announcement and to show viewers that it’s not necessarily a disfigurement and death sentence if medical attention is sought soon enough and women are proactive about their diagnosis.
