The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) are choosing to advance their quickly developing personal friendship. Trane appears to be moving ahead, as Y&R may be creating a heart-warming new couple.

This pairing would have been considered not just unlikely, but impossible during the Lane years. But Christel Khalil’s (Lily Winters) opt out of her regular contract last year, when choosing to move to recurring status, meant that a new direction would be taken for Goddard, who has remained a full-time member of the cast. Maitland’s tenure on the show dates back to 1984, when she became part of Y&R’s full expansion of the Abbott family. This particular clan was established as the new legacy family, along with the Newman’s.

Maitland is 61. Goddard turns 48 next month. Some within the audience might be surprised that Y&R would pair both characters based upon their ages and the fact that neither was romantically interested in each other in the past. But this duo, which seems to be moving toward relationship status, is reflective of various real world couples. Of course, that’s just one reason why it’s an engaging plot path to pursue.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – It’s Now Possible For Trane To Be A Couple

The wonderful story-within-a-story, Stolen Lockets, Broken Hearts, served as the impetus to weave the characters Maitland and Goddard play into a potential pairing. Traci’s choice of Cane initially appeared to be part of a thought experiment. And it was mostly geared to her historical fiction book’s plot.

But time and the realization of Miss Abbott’s feelings revealed that Cane was someone who she had genuine romantic feelings for.

Cane was not in love with Traci when this storyline started. Instead, he was still dealing with the loss of his true love, Lily. As the most recent edition of Lane came to a close, viewers could see that it was possible for Trane to become a couple.

The joint trip to New York that Traci and Cane are planning naturally causes Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) some angst. He’s Traci’s brother. He was also the guy who felt compelled to tell Lily that Cane had kissed Vickie Newman (Amelia Heinle) on multiple occasions, and Cane’s enduring, step-sibling rival.

Cane won’t be swayed by whatever Billy has to say. As for Traci, her accepting demeanor is one that her younger brother is concerned about. He sees Cane as a user and the man who nearly broke up Villy’s reconciliation plans.

As for the principal players in Y&R’s evolving tale, here’s hoping that Traci and Cane are given the green-light. Both actors have the chops to deliver what could be a fully satisfying love story.
