The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Marla Adams Great Works Continues – Journal Scenes Smartly DoneThe comparison on ‘The Young and the Restless’ isn’t between Marla Adams (Dina) and Jeanne Cooper (Katherine). This week Y&R created a full-day story that split between Dina in court, a created flashback to her journaling about Graham (Max Shippee) and her daughters, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Traci (Beth Maitland) locating evidence that they believed would swing legal matters in the Abbott’s favor.

Executive producer and head writer Mal Young previously advised that he wanted to offer more long form story-telling within his daytime hour. The episode referenced evidenced that vision. It was highly engaging.

Casting Adams for a regular role was debatable when it happened. Dina was a secondary character who was first introduced in the mid-1980’s. Her main purpose was to help flesh out John’s (Jerry Douglas) betrayal backstory along with Ashley’s paternity issue.

The complexity of Dina’s more recent dealings became increasingly clear as 2017 unfolded. Yes, Devon’s (Bryton James) pitch to buy Mergeron was accepted because he was Katherine’s grandson. But it was also a good deal for Dina who knew Alzheimer’s descended upon her.

Graham’s slow reveal has allowed Shippee to shine. He’s portrayed the villain with flair.

Mr. Bloodworth’s increasingly cagey efforts confounded the Abbott’s as much as Y&R’s audience. But know everyone knows what the plan is for him and his wife.

Will Jack, Ashley, Traci or maybe even Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) be able to split the Bloodworth’s before it’s too late? This is soap, so the answer to that question will be answered in the daytime.
