The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki Loves Herself – Carmela Soprano Redux

‘Pikki Nikki’ (Melody Thomas Scott) told ‘King Victor’ (Eric Braeden) that she wanted to perform for herself on ‘The Young and the Restless’. It wasn’t about him, or anyone else. One wonders if Mrs. Newman has been rehearsing the piano version of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ for the finale of her benefit concert this week?

Yes, this scribe has anticipated the torrent of detractors who will point out everything that the ‘Moustache’ has done to every man and woman who has ever lived in Y&R land through the years.

It might surprise some to know that this author remains with that group of judges himself. He knows Victor is pathologically manipulative.

However, choosing to see Victor’s imbedded character flaw shouldn’t blind us to ‘Needy Nikki’s’ woebegone ways. Yes, the former Nicole Reed is also crooked.

Okay, let’s purely look at Thomas Scott’s character, rather than rant about every subjective plot point back through the 1980’s. Nikki learned that Victor worked with Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) who admitted to killing Adam (Justin Hartley). Then what did Mrs. Newman choose to do with that information?

Well, she didn’t call the police, or a lawyer. She didn’t leave the plush Newman Ranch. She didn’t file for divorce. Instead she told her children to remain silent so they could all continue living the good life.

Carmela Soprano (played by the superb Edie Falco) overlooked her husband’s ways so that she could live like a queen in New Jersey’s upside. Now Tony (played by the late, amazingly great James Gandolfini) doesn’t compare exactly to Victor. But the two likely did business sometime between 1999-2007.

Yes, it’s hard to believe that ‘The Sopranos’ arrived at its famous halting ending 10 years ago. Classic television that was arguably the best ever projected.

Victor made his traditional grand gesture by having a new wing of the hospital named after Nikki. The benefit concert he orchestrated caused Nikki to fret. Combine that with another Multiple Sclerosis flare-up and trouble was certainly telegraphed, though unavoidable.

Here’s the bottom line on this digital sit-down: Nikki has chosen to overlook her mob-like husband’s maneuvers in order to keep cushy. She’s enabled Victor’s behavior because she loves herself just as much as her husband. Capeesh?
