The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Cane's Actions Are Unbelievable – LA Scheme Still Doesn't Make Sense

Why would Cane (Daniel Goddard) pay some guy to make Billy (Jason Thompson) look bad on ‘The Young and the Restless’? But that’s exactly what happened when Goddard’s alter ego stepped way out of character in Los Angeles. Now, that videographer has slithered into town as this part of a questionable storyline that’s obviously in crescendo mode.

A fair critique of any form of entertainment isn’t to attack everything. Those who look down on this genre do that because they take themselves too seriously. Being overly picky would also make one a soap snob. So let’s attempt to look at Cane’s devolution in an objective way, if that’s possible.

Y&R Star Daniel Goddard News And Updates

‘Lane’ basically became secondary players for a number of years. The Joe (Scott Elrod) arc basically spotlighted Christel Khalil’s character Lily, with a bit of Cane and Lauren (Tracey Bregman) mixed in. But after Lily and Cane reconciled they moved back to Mildville.

Y&R’s writing team opted to push Cane into bad guy territory by creating Juliet (Laur Allen). That’s believable, as many people make mistakes with members of the opposite sex. Cane’s twist proved epic, as he apparently created a child with this woman.

Personal matters often spill into the workplace. But, let’s skip over the DARE commercial shoot before we circle back.

The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Cane's Actions Are Unbelievable – LA Scheme Still Doesn't Make Sense

Cane lied to Vickie (Amelia Heinle) and to Lily about what happened in Tokyo, which resulted in problems at home and at Brash and Sassy. Is it reasonable to believe that his actions in Japan would eventually come out, that Lily and the SORAS’d twins would feel betrayed and that his employer would cut ties with him after a lawsuit was settled? Sure.

But rewinding to California, Cane had no logical reason to sabotage his own wife’s modeling comeback. If he wanted to get Billy other plot points could have been written. And pointing to the dated, controversial faked death storyline involving Cane’s twin Caleb doesn’t make this issue somehow better.

What this author is suggesting isn’t that Cane’s actions since Los Angeles haven’t been reasonable, or that he wouldn’t feel compelled to meet Jesse’s blackmail demands. Instead, the indigestible plot point is very specific.

The character Y&R viewers have known for years simply wouldn’t have undercut Lily and put the company he worked for in serious jeopardy because he wanted to get Billy. So write him way from where he’s at.
