EastEnders Star Ross Kemp Makes Harsh Accusations Against Former Showrunner

EastEnders Spoilers: Ross Kemp Makes Harsh Accusations Against Former ShowrunnerThe once untouchable “EastEnders,” has seen a precipitous drop in ratings recently and star Ross Kemp (Grant Mitchell) believes he knows the reason why. Could he be on to something? In a recent interview the veteran actor served up some bold opinions on why the venerable show has fallen in the ratings race, and he spared no details.

According to the 52-year old Kemp, some of the blame lays with Sean O’Connor, the recently fired showrunner.

O’Connor and the sudser parted ways on June 22, more than a year into his tenure. At the time he went on the record as saying that the decision to depart the show was a mutual one and that he would be looking for work in film.

At the time he released a statement, saying, “I’ve had an amazing time at EastEnders. Working with the editorial staff, cast and crew at Elstree has been an absolute privilege … When the BBC asked me to take over at EastEnders, my plan was to stay until the end of 2017 but with production starting on these films sooner than anticipated, I must – with a heavy heart- bid farewell to Albert Square.”

Kemp debuted on the BBC One soap in 1990 and has obviously seen a lot of changes over time. In an interview with The Sun, Kemp stated that the fired honcho actually made actors cry during his tenure, and compared him to an employee at a poorly run public school. Kemp went on to say that O’Connor worked actors, “into the … ground,” and implied that he abused certain actors.

The show itself has not confirmed these, and similar accusations, so the claims remain speculative in nature. What is certain however is that the once top-rated show has lost a considerable number of viewers. While an average of 6.2 million viewers watched the show in September 2016, the numbers dipped to 4.5 million during one week in June.
