First off, the long awaited EastEnders return of Tamzin Outhwaite as Melanie Owen comes in January. It’s been teased that she arrives with a secret or two, ready to blow someone out of the Walford water.

Could her son Hunter (Charlie Winter) be a part of the mysterious goings-on?

Also returning to EastEnders are the Slater women, Kat, (Jessie Wallace), Jean (Gillian Wright) and Mo (Laila Morse). And, they’ll be bringing a plus-one to the party, sounds like fun! But how long do we have to wait to find out Alfie’s (Shane Richie) fate?

The Queen Vic’s fate is also hanging in the balance as the New Year rolls in. Are Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda (Kellie Bright) to remain or will they be forced to find new occupations for themselves?

Speaking of the pub, former barman Woody (Lee Ryan) will show himself again, after leaving to manage a bar in Spain.

But Whitney (Shona McGarty) has washed that man right outta her hair; she’ll be involved in a new EastEnders romance (surprise!) in 2018.

Fans will say goodbye to two young men in 2018. Ben (Harry Reid) departs the Square; does Mel have something to do with his exit? Also taking his leave is Johnny (Ted Reilly); will he go with a bang or a whimper?

Also swelling the population of Albert Square will be Masood’s (Nitin Ganatra) relatives, Miriam (Indira Joshi) and Arshad (Madhav Sharmaand). Theirs will be rowdy arrival!

Michelle Fowler (Jenna Russell) will make a welcome return to the Square after a spell Down Under. Many thought her holiday absence signaled the end of the unlucky-in-love lady, but that’s not the case.

Look for the New Year to kick off with a calamitous blast for Aiden (Patrick Bergin) and his band of merry men, including Mick Carter.

What’s in store for the rambunctious Taylor family in 2018? This year saw them tangled up with loan sharks and suffering an unfortunate loss. Will they ring in the New Year jolly and bright on EastEnders?
