Coronation Street Spoilers: Carla Connor Returns In Big Christmas Storyline

Coronation Street fans can expect an awesome present from the soap this year, in the form of Alison King’s return to the cobbles. The popular actress will be back as Carla Connor in time for the holidays (and yes, to cause trouble!) according to TPTB.

We last saw Hurricane Carla as she made an unceremonious exit following her calamitous wedding to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price). Apparently, Nick wasn’t pleased to learn that the beautiful brunette had a fling with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) on the eve of their wedding!

Just how will Carla make her presence known on the cobbles? According to show exec Kate Oates, fans can expect Carla to enter like the force of nature that she is, but with a little less of her self-destructive streak on display.

In an interview with The Sun Oates gave viewers a sneak peak into King’s welcomed return. “‘It’s time to break new ground with Carla,” she said. “I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction.”

Instead, Oates explained that a new angle will be explored with Carla, one in which she and Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) will find themselves engaged in a different kind of clash.

She explained, “What we’ll have … are these two strong Connor women … on opposing sides and in conflict for a change. It’ll be a refreshing dynamic for us to see.”

Fans have already responded with enthusiastic anticipation at the prospect of Carla and Michelle going head to head and toe to toe. Since Oates’ announcement social media has been buzzing with speculation on the kinds of interactions we’ll see between these two headstrong women.

Will they fight over a man? Will the past rear its ugly head? Or are there new battles to be fought, and alliances to be formed when these two go to war? Until December rolls around, fans will just have to imagine the fresh drama that Carla’s sure to bring to Corrie.
