Coronation Street Poll: Do You Think The Soap Has Gone Too Dark?

For weeks now many Coronation Street viewers have been complaining that the beloved British soap has been taking a path towards a dark, twisted world that many fans are simply sick of seeing. As a matter of fact, many long-time viewers have been complaining that the series is now going in the wrong direction so much so that some of the show’s biggest stars are speaking up.

From Pat Phelan’s double murders, to Bethany Platt’s sex scandal and even Robert Preston’s testicular cancer, viewers have had enough. They don’t want to see these dark storylines continue as there seems to be more tragedy at every corner now than ever before.

According to Britain’s Metro, actor Tristan Gemmill recently opened up about the complaints but said that he doesn’t think the soap is going in the wrong direction. He even insists that Coronation Street hasn’t lost the humor that so many viewers have learned to love over the years.

He told the publication, “I personally think the Pat Phelan storyline is fantastic and Connor McIntyre is just smashing it – he is an actor at the height of his powers and the writers just love writing for him. Obviously, he’s a wrong ‘un and in the law of soaps, he will get his comeuppance eventually – it’s a question of playing it out and I know that the vast majority of people view him as a really popular character and he has won a bunch of awards for it.”

Still, for many viewers, this isn’t convincing at all. They are worried about some of their beloved characters like Anna Windass, who they believe might be Pat Phelan’s next victim. They also have to deal with Billy Mayhew’s past haunting him again and a new storyline about testicular cancer. For viewers, they want to see the show go back to it’s roots.
