Dungey’s promotion from Executive VP of Drama to President was a major promotion and now Rebecca Campbell has taken over daytime. But does that mean that Campbell’s promotion as the new head of ABC daytime is a black mark against someone else at GH?
We have to wonder is this about more than a rearranging of the top power tier at ABC? What do you think GH fans? Do you think Rebecca Campbell has been brought in to replace someone at ABC daytime or just to shake things up?
Is this just musical chairs at the top levels of ABC or is there more meaning here? According to BroadcastingCable.com, Campbell is a “rising star” who was appointed president of ABC’s owned stations six year ago.
Ben Sherwood, President of Disney-ABC TV said, “Please join me in supporting Rebecca as she leads Daytime to even greater heights.” In a promotion announcement document, it said that Campbell has daytime production experience while at a local station and was station group chief before.
With Dungey now in charge as President, according to Soap Central, there is already talk of belt tightening and less “soapy serials.” Do we have to worry about our beloved GH going the way of All My Children and One Life to Live? Or is General Hospital safe for now?
What do you think this means for the future of ABC, GH and GH showrunners? Is this business as usual or a meaningful shift in daytime? Share your comments below and come back to Soap Opera Spy for more ‘General Hospital’ news on the ABC daytime executive shakeup.
