Things may seem bleak at the moment, but Y&R definitely has more in store for these two.
Thanks to Lily’s decision to team up with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) on the kidnapping ruse, Cane is feeling hurt and furious.
This whole ordeal turned Cane’s world upside down, so it was devastating when he learned Lily had been in on the scheme from the beginning.
Lily is obviously regretting her involvement based on the events of the March 27 episode. Between Victor’s delay on handing over Chancellor and Cane’s insistence that he never wants to see Lily again, she’s feeling pretty rattled.
There was a time when Lily was the angry one trying to force Cane out of her life. Now Lily’s got what she once thought she wanted, but she’s realizing it’s not what she wanted at all.
Deep down, Lily loves Cane just as much as he loves her. Cane wouldn’t be this upset if there weren’t still plenty of love in his heart, too.
That said, it’s easy to see why Cane thinks he’s done at this point. After months of pining for Lily and fighting to fix things between them, all Cane got out of it was Lily making him think she was in danger along with the twins.
Cane will be bitter for a while, but Y&R recast the role with a clear plan for Cane and Lily’s reunion. From the moment Billy Flynn stepped into the part, the show started paving the way for Cane and Lily to get back together.
That’s no doubt still the plan, but there’s a bit of a twist now that Lily’s the one who’ll have to repair the damage. Lily will have to find a way to forgive Cane for his own past transgressions and get him to forgive her own more recent ones.
Despite Cane’s claim that he’s cutting off contact, he’ll remain in Lily’s orbit in the coming weeks. Lily and Cane are still on a long and winding journey back to couple status, so we’ll see how long it takes them to figure out their new chapter.
Cane and Lily might end up running Chancellor together sooner or later, so stay tuned for more news on the road ahead.
