The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers show that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) wants to be a father again, without getting pregnant.
That would be his significant other’s job, and she isn’t having it. Who’s right and who’s wrong?
Let’s break down why Adam is not wrong (just biologically inferior)!
Key Takeaways
- Adam wants another baby, but Chelsea refuses
- Delivering Ruby brings back painful memories of Ava
- Adam is struggling with grief and anger
- Billy wants Adam to stay away from Sally and Ruby
- A secret love child could give Adam an unexpected twist
Chelsea is Not Wrong Either
Adam’s baby broodiness comes after his emergency delivery of baby Ruby from his ex Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope).
This in itself is exceptional, but it gets more sensitive because he and Sally lost a child together, and that is not something that anyone ever gets over.
It’s understandable that the delivery would bring to the surface a ton of emotions, some conflicting, but all valid.
As previously reported, Chelsea has already made it clear that she doesn’t want another pregnancy, even as Adam continues thinking about expanding their family.
Is Adam a Wreck?
The response of Adam’s loved ones is to shut him down and tell him to move on.
That’s not going to work. Adam doesn’t need to move on from death; he needs to work through the maze and learn how to live life going forward.
Instead, he has Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) slapping him down for wanting her to birth another child and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) threatening him.
Their responses reflect their feelings and deserve to be heard, too.
But Adam isn’t listening. He can’t, because he’s full of grief and anger.
Adam’s Grief and Anger
Adam’s loss of baby Ava is compounded by the loss of his son Christian Newman, who is being raised by his brother Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), which is a TLDR at this point.
While Adam is okay with this oddball situation, it has to tug at his heartstrings and mind to see his boy grow up before his eyes and not be a significant presence in his life.
Meanwhile, Victor may step in as Adam’s attachment to Ruby causes more trouble, but will his father understand what Adam is going through?
Sally and Ruby’s Life
Still, Adam does need to leave his Ruby and Sally obsession behind.
But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t genuinely deserve to raise another child if that is his wish.
It’s just that Chelsea thinks his wish is driven by unresolved issues, and she’s right.
And just in case you didn’t know it, having another child to fix a failing family or relationship is stupid.
Can Adam Leave Sally and Ruby Alone?
Is this the time for Adam to discover he has a secret love child? That would be a soapilicious development.
Maybe there’s a Baby Spyder that Riza has kept hidden, or another of his flings comes out of the woodwork with a bambino.
In soapland, anything is possible!
In the meantime, Billy has already warned Adam that Ruby isn’t a replacement for Ava, so this situation isn’t getting any easier.
Annemarie’s Take
I can understand why Adam wants another child after everything he’s lost, but Chelsea has every right to say no. And Billy certainly has a right to protect his family. Still, I think Adam needs some understanding instead of everyone just telling him to move on. A surprise love child would certainly shake things up, but would it actually help Adam deal with his grief?
