Royal Expert Praises the Waleses For Choosing Silence
In his latest memoir ‘Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,’ Earl Spencer laid several damaging accusations down at the King’s table. Unable to stomach it in silence, the King had the Palace issue a statement in rebuff.
While the statement was short and respectful, many have questioned the need for the monarch to do so. But not BBC royal commentator Jennie Bond, it seems
“I think the Earl Spencer drama has peaked, and the royal family have ridden out the storm,” Bond told The Mirror. “Opinion seems to be divided about whether or not Buckingham Palace was wise to issue its hard-hitting statement at the start of the row.”
However, even though the Palace was quick to respond to Earl Spencer’s claims in the book, they’ve so far remained silent to the Earl’s further provocations, like that time he accused the King of gaslighting him.
“I think it was the right tactic,” she continued, adding, “Equally, I think William and Catherine made the right decision to ignore the noise—and the allegations—and simply get on with their work.”
Touching on how the Waleses’ handled the storm created by Harry’s bestselling memoir ‘Spare,’ Bond continued, “As with Harry’s book [2023’s Spare], they rose above the row, refused to acknowledge any questions, and just carried on charming the crowds who came to see them. It’s very effective, and I don’t see them getting sucked into the drama now.”
Even though William is yet to publicly react to his uncle Charles Spencer’s memoir, some insiders have claimed that he is incredibly saddened by it, and feels let-down by him.
