Earlier this week, it was reported that two international journalists were spotted near Archie and Lilibet’s new school.
The next day, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to react to the development, calling it extraordinary reckless via their spokesperson.
Now we’re getting a reaction to the Sussex couple’s reaction.
Harry & Meghan Condemn School Paparazzi
Following the paparazzi incident, Harry and Meghan rebuked the paparazzi in a strongly worded statement shared by their spokesperson.
But if you ask Dai Davis, who is a former royal protection officer, their reaction was overblown for something that should have been expected.
“Every week their so-called security team has to come up with new things. Paparazzi is not a security incident. It is just to be expected. It’s not unrealistic to expect some paparazzi who will chance their arm; the security team can deal with that easily,” Davis told The Sun.
“I hope Ravec aren’t swayed and common sense prevails as all the incidents amount to sweet FA. There’s no comparison to Fairford. It’s bordering on shameless but ridiculous as well,” he continued.
Aside from Davis, royal fans have also had pretty strong reactions to Harry and Meghan’s statement, with some going as far as to doubt whether the paparazzi incident happened as purported. Others accused the Sussexes of blowing the incident out of proportions just to find a foothold to support their security case.
What Happened at Archie & Lilibet’s School?
Harry and Meghan’s reaction to the paparazzi incident at their children’s new school was immediate.
“The decision by photographers to conduct themselves in this way around a school is extraordinarily reckless,” their statement read. “There is a world of difference between legitimate media activity and photographers walking the perimeter of a school, stopping to look into the grounds and monitoring children as they go about their day.
It is concerning enough that certain European paparazzi appear unwilling to respect the privacy of children at school.”
They further called out the involved individuals for having “an extraordinary lack of judgment.”
The statement continued, “Whatever photographs they may have been seeking, this was not only an unacceptable intrusion into the privacy of children; it was an irresponsible and ill-considered way to conduct themselves in the vicinity of a school.”
