Outrage Erupts Over Bar Manager Allegedly Fleeing Fatal Switzerland Fire

The release of footage showing the moments following the Le Constellation bar fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland resulted in outrage by viewers. It comes amid an investigation following the New Year’s Day inferno that left 40 people dead, and over 100 folks injured. And, it seems that there is a true crime or two to answer for. 

The Allegations About Bar Management 

The Mirror reported on YouTube that allegedly, manager Jessica Moretti prioritised the bar’s takings over the lives of her patrons. Apparently, she was seen fleeing the bar with a cash till while the fire trapped dozens in the basement. One outlet they cited was from Italy. Well, many people believed that a true crime happened, but even more so now.

Furious, those who viewed the report erupted with anger and disgust. One of them opined, “I’m speechless, thinking about saving the cash instead of trying to help? That’s obscene.”

Angry Reactions In The Comments

Others had similar things to say. Here are a few of those reactions:

• Omg, people where dying and she was concerned only about the money to save. She should be in prison for life.
• That’s disgusting, and unforgivable.
• The owner and staff had a moral and professional obligation to stay and help all of the patrons get to safety before trying to save themselves. She and staff should have unlocked the fire extinguishers and used them and unlocked exit doors within the first moment of their knowledge of the fire. She needs to be SHAMED for her disgusting cowardice.

A Breach of Moral Obligation

The anger stems from what many see as a total abandonment of civic duty. Many people think about the fact that the management could have claimed off insurance. Then again, maybe not, as apparently, they were not all that compliant with regulations at the Crans-Montana bar.

Still, while it’s small compensation, at least legal reality might be sinking in now. Reports confirm that Ms. Moretti and her husband, Jacques, face charges of homicide, bodily harm, and arson by negligence. Of course, many folks hope that she also gets a lot of scrutiny for not stopping to help patrons in danger.

Luxury Turned to Chaos

The disaster occurred in a resort known for its “attractive scenery combined with comfort,” as we previously reported. Plus, it always seemed unthinkable that the safety failure was so overwhelming. It seems that the fire started when champagne bottle sparklers ignited flammable foam on the ceiling, and the resulting fire became a death trap.

Adding to the shocking reports, are stories about how the Constellation bar allegedly didn’t get the proper safety inspections done for about five years. Naturally, the lapse in the usual Swiss efficiency demands a lot of answers. In a culture where “everything works,” the sight of a manager saving cash while the venue burned simply symbolizes the tragedy that need never have happened.
