Nick Reiner Two Courts, One Defendant: Will Trust Fight Delay Murder Trial?

A new development arrived regarding suspect Nick Reiner and the double murder of Hollywood figures Rob and Michelle Reiner. New court documents reveal the family’s internal fight over money and justice.

A Legal Play?

The latest update reveals that Nick Reiner demands access to millions from his parents’ estate to fund his defense.

In a video update released hours ago, Brian Entin Investigates exposed the legal battle behind the scenes.

According to newly unsealed court filings, Nick’s defense team filed an emergency petition to force the estate’s trustees to release his inheritance.

The Money Issues

Reporting on the unsealed records, Entin revealed that “the documents say that Nick Reiner was to receive half the money when he turned 30 and then he was set to receive another half of the money when he turned 35.”

Entin, and his guest panelist, California attorney Ambrosio Rodriguez discussed whether he should get the cash.

Entin updated true crime viewers as to how the filings clarify that Nick never received those funds.

Why? His defense called out “a series of excuses and justifications” by the trustee.

Entin asked: “If you’re accused of killing your parents, are you still entitled to some of their money?”

The Sibling Pact Dissolves

They reveal lingering answers to questions asked by many true crime fans earlier this year.

That came when Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson abruptly stepped away from the case during a closed-door arraignment.

True crime fans speculated that the family cut off the cash flow to Nick Reiner. So it’s possible that the new court documents prove those theories correct.

The filings reveal that Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner initially gave a verbal agreement about the defense.

The Financial Reversal

Entin confirmed that according to the paperwork, “Jake and Romy Reiner participated in communications and that they agreed verbally to act as third-party payers for Nick’s defense.”

But the financial backing evaporated almost as fast as it appeared. At one stage, Jackson was available.

But with the money would the celebrity lawyer be “willing now to represent Nick Reiner if the money comes in?”

The Probate Trap

While his attorneys seek access to the family fortune in probate court, his criminal defense is expected to emphasize his long history of schizophrenia and substance abuse.

The two arguments are not necessarily incompatible, but they could invite scrutiny from prosecutors and the public alike.

Additionally, probate court moves slowly. It’s a civil fight between private entities. Thus, the proceedings can be sealed.

The arguments are not necessarily inconsistent in legal terms, but they could raise questions about how Reiner’s condition is viewed in different courtrooms.

Criminal Court Proceeds Anyway?

With the prosecution still keeping the death penalty on the table, the probate proceedings run alongside the criminal case.

But it should be noted that so far, prosecutors have not publicly identified inheritance as a motive.

Even if Reiner eventually wins access to trust funds, the murder case would not necessarily wait for that outcome.

However, if the funds become available early enough, he could still retain private counsel and expand his defense resources before trial.

Viewers React

Noticeable anger arrived in the comments section. One angry commenter penned, “This is disgusting that they are even debating it !! Sickening.”

Here are a few more reactions from the discussion:

  • You should never profit from murdering someone… no matter who it is.
  • Nick should NEVER get anything else from his parents!! Siblings should cut him off completely.
  • He already used up his trust in the money his parents spent on his medical bills for years.
