The lack of progress in the Nancy Guthrie case still gets a lot of attention from true crime followers and investigative journalists.
And, when it becomes perplexing for legal experts, then probably something isn’t going to plan. Read on to find out what a retired FBI agent thinks is going on in the background.
Is The Case Stalled?
While presumably, investigators still work on the missing person case, the lack of news makes many folks think the case went cold. After all, it’s been nearly three months since she was last seen alive.
On his Brian Entin Investigates podcast this week, he spoke with retired FBI Special Agent Maureen O’Connell.
From his perspective, he wondered if there’s anything happening at all. Stalled? Cold? And he’s not the only one thinking that.
Building A Case?
Well, O’Connell doesn’t believe that nothing is happening. Nevertheless, she agreed that no news seems very unusual. In fact, she said, “I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a case where there appears to be less forward movement.”
However, she countered that by saying that silence doesn’t always mean a case went cold. More than likely, behind the scenes, “There probably is movement.”
From her experience, Maureen seemed hopeful that “they’re building a case against one or more individuals.”
Friction Develops
From what the duo discussed, it’s not just private reporters who feel edged out of covering the case. Allegedly, the family of Nancy Guthrie might be stonewalled as well.
Entin noted that the Pima County Sheriff no longer speaks directly with Nancy’s family. Interestingly, that also includes Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s TV Anchor daughter.
Per his sources, Entin claimed that the family now routes all communication through the FBI.
Looking Answers Elsewhere
If you’ve been following the various insights on YouTube, one very common observation by true crime followers focuses on why Savannah and her family are not looking elsewhere for answers. But now, it seems that they do.
Notably, experienced FBI agent Maureen O’Connell is of the opinion that moving elsewhere for information often happens. That’s because they’ve become frustrated with the progress of a case.
Possiblity Of A Scam
Next up, Entin talked about the theory that perhaps Nancy Guthrie ended up in a romance or financial scam. Why? Well, he heard about a recent “murder-suicide in California.”
In that instance, an elderly woman was defrauded by a fake “Tom Selleck” scheme.
If you think this seems too out there, well, it happens that O’Connell dismissed the angle. Not because she didn’t believe Nancy could be conned, but because of the investigation into her disappearance.
She explained, “The digital exhaust would have definitely led [investigators] someplace.” She fleshed it out by adding, “If an online scam were behind this, they would have had someone in handcuffs.”
Viewers React
People long ago wrote all their own opinions on Nancy. And, the lack of news seems to have exhausted everyone. So, a lot of the reactions focused on Brian Entin and Maureen and their professional approach.
Additionally, many people seem grateful that they got their teeth into the case and stick with it. By now, many journalists and experts packed up their bags and went home.
One person wrote, “Thank you for remaining so genuine and so sincere. Not only with this case, but every case…”
Not everyone avoided discussion of the case though. However, a sense of desperation seeped through.
One subscriber wrote, “I’m sorry to say that I don’t think Nancy Guthrie will ever be found. I think the FBI are just looking for a needle in a haystack.”
