The case of Nancy Guthrie drags on, reliable investigative journalists claim that there’s a lack of cooperation between Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI. Worse, the suspicion centers around the possibility that some important information was withheld from the feds. Read on for more details.
Tesnion With Law Enforcement Departments
If these claims hold any water, then it’s disturbing and they suggest a huge rift in the case of the missing 84-year-old. Reporting from Tucson for NewsNation on Thursday night, Brian Entin highlighted the alleged tension between the two law enforcement outfits.
Of interest, he claimed that “the FBI is having trouble getting some of the information from the Sheriff’s department.”
The allegation might be linked to digital evidence and details about the initial scene at Nancy’s home. You might recall that Sheriff Nanos held a press conference, and reporters seemed to think he dodged questions about camera surveillance.
Example Of The Clash
At the time, Nanos claimed that the tech company “ran out of ways to recover any video.” However, the FBI later released footage from that exact camera. Of course, that fueled rumors about a lack of transparency by Nanos.

Still, via Kash Patel, news outlets claimed that the FBI said the footage wasn’t previously available but the FBI recovered it via residual data. Clearly, it could be argued in the sheriff’s favor that the FBI have skills that the local department lacks. So, what else points to a lack of cooperation?

Other Sources
Well, Brian’s been on the ground for some time, and he said that he heard some investigators complain about not knowing who’s in charge. He elaborated:
Investigators who are working the case who are
actively working the case have no idea who was in charge. They don’t know if the sheriff
is in charge.
Next, he elaborated a bit, citing Reuters, an outlet with a good reputation. He said, “Now this Reuters report just came out and they are claiming the local sheriff is withholding key evidence from the FBI.”
The Glove In Question
Talking about that, he mentioned a glove that might have been found, that possibly the intruder wore at Nancy Guthrie’s home. According to Entin’s analysis, “the glove was found inside Nancy Guthrie’s home.”

Apparently the FBI wanted to check it out, presumably for DNA and other evidence. However, they wanted to send the glove to Quantico. But, the Reuters report said that instead, “the sheriff went behind their back and sent the glove to a private lab in Florida.”
Impeding The Investigation
Naturally if true, then lack of coordination could slow down the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mom. Notably, there’s “a lot of frustration behind the scenes.” Although the FBI leads the digital forensic side of the probe, allegedly, they still lack full access to some local files.
Obviously, interdepartmental drama isn’t something that Nancy Guthrie’s family need right now. Despite the reward being upped to $100K, according to Brian Entin, there seems to be little progress.
Viewers Respond With Anger
True crime followers care about Nancy and they vented a lot about the allegations in the comments section. One person penned furiously, “This is not the time for the sheriff to try to one up the FBI. The only priority should be finding Nancy and arresting the perpetrator. Egos don’t belong in this investigation!”
Here are a few other responses in the discussion:
- They are failing Nancy! Drop the egos and do your job!
- They should investigate that sheriff. He has acted really weird since all this began now he’s blocking the FBI.
- The sheriff should face federal charges for impeding an investigation.
