Kouri Richins: Judge Delivers A Final Blow In Fentanyl Murder Case

Kouri Richins went on trial in Summit County, Utah following the death of her husband, Eric, and she ended up being found guilty. That’s despite a lot of circumstantial evidence. And, the state’s evidence about the drug dealer who allegedly supplied the drugs that killed Eric, fell apart. Now her sentencing took place, read on to find out how long she will stay behind bars.

The Sentencing

The sentencing was emotional, with family and letters from her kids read out. Kouri also spoke, but she didn’t seem to move the judge. In fact, he took an extra long time to read out the final decision. So much so, that some folks who watched it on NewsNation got the feeling he enjoyed baiting the mouse.

Eventually he got to the point, and Kouri Richins will spend the rest of her life behind bars without the possibility of any parole. Her reaction? Well, she rolled her eyes. Of course, that doesn’t sit well with people who watched it play out on YouTube.

Short Recap

The prosecution believed that Kouri gave Eric fentanyl procured by a housekeeper. Plus, they alleged that she did a trial run by giving him a sandwich laced with it. They produced text messages, and something called “Walk the Dog.” That, Kouri claimed was a manuscript for a book.

Previously, she’d written a children’s book about suffering and grief for her sons. Well, that also leaned into motive, with accusations she killed her husband to write a book to get money.

Financial Struggles & A Rested Case

Financial records showed that she was indeed, struggling financially. While not everyone believed she’d be found guilty, lots of true crime followers think her attorneys blew it during defense arguments after they rested their case.

The long, rambling diatribe by Wendy Lewis only seemed to alienate the jury. She yelled, and literally banged the podium. At that point, it seemed to viewers that the jury was never going to come back with a divided finding.

Viewers React

After the long speech by the judge, many people commented on Kouri Richins spending life behind bars without the possibility of parole. One of them opined, “The greatest tragedy are her children who now have no parents due to her abhorrent actions.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • She actually rolled her eyes when hearing that she would never walk free again. Complete sociopath.
  • I like he read the most devastating sentence last.
  • I like that the judge took her for a bit of a ride on giving her hope that she might get a chance at parole…and then respectfully yanking it away from her like yanking the rug from under her feet. Good move, judge – she deserved that!
  • Thank goodness Judge Mrazik threw away the key!
