The reason is that, despite the Sussex family’s UK move, relations with the Royal Family remain as fraught as ever. With Harry still doing media runs – a MasterClass on grief and a GQ Magazine feature – it’s no wonder the Royal Family has chosen not to approach them, even with a 10-foot pole.
Key Takeaways
- The Royal Family reportedly plans to remain silent on the Thomas Markle scandal
- Relations between the Sussexes and the Palace remain strained
- Royal reporter Andrea Caamano does not expect Palace involvement
- King Charles and Prince William are focused on royal duties
- No public intervention from the Royal Family is expected
King Charles Refuses To Wade Into Thomas Markle Drama To Save The Sussexes
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have to find ways to overcome their latest adversity all on their lonesome. So far, they’ve tried to ease the backlash in a number of ways, including a statement in which an insider claimed the Duchess was advised by a royal guard to keep silent while the investigation into the serious allegations against her father continues.
As the Thomas Markle scandal raises fresh questions about the Sussexes’ royal status, one thing they reportedly won’t be getting is help from the Royal Family’s PR machine.
“I don’t anticipate the royal family becoming involved in this situation,” royal reporter Andrea Caamano recently told Page Six.
“Despite Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK, relations remain complicated, and I don’t see the Palace wanting to become involved in matters concerning Meghan’s father.”
Caamano, who also co-hosts Hello!’s A Right Royal Podcast, noted that there has been no confirmed face-to-face meeting between the Royal Family and the Sussexes.
With Harry and Meghan reportedly reducing their public appearances, the relationship with the Palace remains complicated.
“The King also has an enormous amount on his plate,” Caamano said, referring to the nine-day Caribbean tour the King is currently on, during which he is set to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting with Queen Camilla.
On the other hand, Prince William will soon be heading to Mumbai, India, to host the Earthshot Prize Awards. It is not yet confirmed whether Princess Kate will accompany him.
“Ultimately, I think the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales will continue doing what they do best: concentrating on their royal duties and the work ahead of them,” Caamano said. “I wouldn’t expect any public intervention from the royal family in this particular matter.”
Annemarie’s Take
It certainly looks like the Palace intends to stay out of this controversy. With relations already strained, I wouldn’t expect King Charles or Prince William to get involved anytime soon.
