GH Spoilers: Port Charles Resurrection – Is It Time To Bring The Vampire Spinoff Back?

General Hospital spoilers and updates remind us, as Halloween approaches, we remember the GH spinoff “Port Charles”. Should the popular spinoff that was ahead of its time be resurrected?

It’s Past Time For The Popular Spinoff To Enjoy A Resurrection

It’s time for ABC to bring Port Charles back. The General Hospital spinoff, which wrapped up its six-season run on October 3, 2003, started as a typical daytime drama about the love triangle between Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom), Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), and Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner), along with the hospital’s medical residents.

Midway through, the show got a much-needed boost when the producers switched to a 13-week telenovela format and added a supernatural twist.

This move was brilliant and brought excitement to afternoon TV that hadn’t been seen since Dark Shadows left the air in 1971. Suddenly, viewers were watching stories about vampires and angels instead of just doctors and lawyers.

Port Charles Was Ahead Of Its Time

Port Charles struck gold with the supercouple of vampire Caleb Morley (Michael Easton, who later played Silas Clay and Hamilton Finn on General Hospital) and Livvie Locke (Kelly Monaco, also known as Sam McCall on GH).

Even with their popularity, the show couldn’t avoid being canceled by ABC boss Brian Frons, who also ended All My Children and One Life to Live.

At the time, ratings just weren’t high enough; but what if the show aired today-maybe viewers weren’t ready for Port Charles when it was at its peak.

It could have been a huge hit if it had come out after shows like True Blood (2008-14), The Vampire Diaries (2009-17), and Twilight, which started attracting vampire fans in 2008. Maybe its time is actually now; “It was a cult hit which never got it’s full due… and sadly ended with no ending… just a cliffhanger,” wrote Brian Gaskill on Instagram.

He played the angel Rafe Kovich from 2001 until the show was canceled-“I really, truly hoped we were going to get one more year to send it off right.”

Fans Were Left With No Storyline Closure

Instead, we were left wondering what would happen to Caleb and Livvie, since their wish had left their friend Alison Barrington (Erin Hershey Presley) pregnant with his child.

There was also the unresolved storyline of newcomer Imani (Kent King) being revealed as a werewolf. Gaskill said he “was really looking forward to… whatever else was up the writers’ sleeves.”

We felt the same way, and maybe we could still find out; all it would take is to bring Port Charles back and pick up where the story left off.

Easton and Monaco are available, and Jon Lindstrom, Lynn Herring, and Kin Shriner are still beloved members of the General Hospital family, though Jon is currently busy playing Joey Armstrong on CBS’s Beyond The Gates.
