Nicholas Alexander Chavez transformed the character of Spencer; as a SORAS’d character, he developed him into one of the show’s most complex young leads, earning a Daytime Emmy in the process.
His portrayal of Spencer was intense, romantic, vulnerable, and incredibly engaging. After Chavez left for a Netflix project, Spencer fell into the Seine, leading to the character being presumed dead; with Chavez’s contract concluded, fans were left heartbroken.
Consequently, when Costa D’Angelo’s name started to circulate online as a possible replacement, the buzz grew loud enough to reach him. D’Angelo spoke with The TV Cave while filming Tell Me Lies, and he was candid about the speculation.
D’Angelo Has Seen The Fans’ Speculation
“I have seen it,” he remarked, recognizing the online enthusiasm from GH fans who wished for him to take on the role of Spencer. He didn’t jump into outright confirmation, but he also didn’t dismiss it. “Tell the General Hospital fans I love them and I see them. So, hopefully one day I can make their dreams come true.”

D’Angelo Isn’t Ruling Playing Spencer Cassadine Out
Currently, D’Angelo is concentrating on Tell Me Lies, where his character Alex bears trauma like a second skin and adheres to a strict internal code.
“Confrontation. Tragic. Childhood;” this is how he characterized the final phase of the season, three words that hinted at emotional reckoning rather than neat resolution.
Alex wasn’t flamboyant-he was restrained, very straightforward, and often candid; D’Angelo discussed portraying someone who expressed his views as he perceived them, even if it made others uneasy.
This approach differs from Spencer’s, yet it’s not entirely incompatible-moreover, Spencer’s legacy is significant; Chavez left behind a portrayal of the character that resonated deeply.
Whoever steps into Spencer’s role next will have big shoes to fill-while D’Angelo didn’t officially claim the role, he also didn’t dismiss it, leaving the possibility slightly ajar.
