GH Spoilers: Blythe Howard Opens Up About Her New Role As Monet

General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Blythe Howard opened up about her new role as Monet Mitchell, Jordan Ashford’s (Tanisha Harper) sister to TV Insider recently.

This is the first soap opera she has ever acted on, and she shared how different it is from a primetime show.

Howard Was Very Excited About Working On A Soap For The First Time

For Howard, entering a soap opera represented an exciting opportunity that immediately appealed to her. “I saw it come through and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is giving Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, and I don’t get those auditions ever,'” she explains. “It was just a really fun, spicy role and I couldn’t pass it up.”

Although daytime television was new professionally, Howard was already very familiar with the genre. “I grew up watching soaps,” she reveals. “My mom watched them. I’ve watched all of them. General Hospital is an OG (old guard), so I’m very excited.”

She Wasn’t Anticipating The Rigorous Schedule

That foundation, however, didn’t fully prepare her for the rigorous production pace. “My first day was insane,” she recounts. “I was like a deer in the headlights. As an actor, you hear different things about what soaps are, what daytime TV is like, and then you get in there, and it’s nothing like it’s described.

You can’t prepare for it; it’s a whirlwind, but it’s so cool, and everyone has been so welcoming and kind and helpful. I just feel seen as a human being, as a person and as an actor, being put in this role.”

The Pressure Was On

The pressure intensified when she encountered an impressive ensemble of scene partners, including Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis). “It’s intimidating working with icons and veterans,” she explains. “It’s amazing what they do.”

Howard is also getting acquainted with Tanisha Harper as their characters’ complicated past emerges. “We’re estranged,” Howard observes, talking about the characters; “But as an actor, you don’t know where it’ll lead, so it’s been fascinating working with her.

Howard Talks About The Monet Storyline Developing

It’s developing as we progress, keeping you alert and engaged; discovering how we got here will excite viewers. Working with Tanisha, we’re discovering it together and building this connection.

She’s incredibly kind, and it’s been truly enjoyable.” Regarding Monet, Howard relishes understanding the character as the story unfolds. “I genuinely appreciate everything about her,” Howard states. “Monet is here to challenge everyone. I love that she’s resilient and won’t accept rejection”.

Howard Says Monet Pursues Her Objectives And Doesn’t Care About Ruffling Feathers

She pursues her objectives with determination and isn’t hesitant about potentially ruffling feathers along the way to achieve her goals. I’m genuinely drawn to characters of this caliber.

I’ve never previously encountered a role quite like Monet, which makes it incredibly thrilling to inhabit her character and gradually uncover her true nature throughout the process.

Her intentions remain perpetually mysterious-we’re constantly left guessing about what her true motivations might be or what schemes she might be orchestrating.

I believe she possesses complete clarity regarding her own agenda and intentions, whereas everyone surrounding her remains entirely in the dark- I find that dynamic to be genuinely entertaining and compelling.

Howard Talks About Formative Experiences

Howard’s path to Port Charles was forged through formative experiences preceding her acting career. “From childhood, my sister and I constantly created,” she reflects. “We performed and acted regularly. Television and film educated us; raised by a single working mother, we watched constantly, so performing became intrinsic to my identity.

Yet I was determined to become a news anchor; journalism captivated me in third grade, and I pursued that direction. Sports dominated my childhood, leaving no room for theater.”

She Started On A Path To Broadcast Journalism

Her original plan led to Washington State University for broadcast journalism, but an unexpected opportunity shifted everything. “I won a contest hosting MTV’s Total Request Live for a day, and I realized, ‘This is my calling,'” she explains. “That moment transformed my trajectory. I transferred to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where acting and academics finally converged. The passion I felt in those classes was unmistakable, and Los Angeles became my inevitable next destination.”

Howard Got Her First Gig Right Away, And Collaborates With Her Real-Life Sister

Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Howard secured her first commercial within a week and launched her career trajectory. “I built my path independently without representation, figuring things out as I went, then found an agent after my second commercial and haven’t stopped working since,” she reflects. “Mentoring commercial actors became incredibly fulfilling, allowing me to support others’ growth-it’s been overwhelming but truly amazing.”

Her creative work extends to collaborations with her sister Kesley-together they founded RoyJoy; “Roy honors my paternal grandfather, Joy my maternal grandmother,” Howard explains-producing, writing, directing, and starring in the short film Unspeakable. “The story examines family bonds and sisterhood; what started as a scene we wanted to create evolved into a short film we’ve now completed and are excited to share.”

Both Sisters Are Cancer Survivors

The Howard sisters, both cancer survivors, established Chemo Queens with a proprietary cold cap innovation and created chemoqueens.com to guide patients through cancer care. “Online resources are fragmented,” she notes. “Finding all-encompassing information spanning diagnosis, treatment, and recovery in one location is challenging-survivorship is often overlooked, so we’re gathering our knowledge to help others.” Moving forward, Howard anticipates her Monet role in Port Charles. “This is my toughest professional undertaking,” she says;  “Yet I’m confident it’ll be transformative, and I’m truly enthusiastic about this opportunity.”
