Ed Smart Shares Painful View on Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Ed Smart has weighed in for the second time this month on the Nancy Guthrie case. If you don’t know, he’s worth listening to because he’s the dad of Elizabeth Smart who was abducted at the age of 14.

The Transparency Call

The first time he spoke out in August, he was talking to Brian Entin on the Brian Entin Investigates podcast on YouTube. At the time, he focused on the lack of information being made available about Nancy Guthrie.

He felt that transparency helps people assist in difficult investigations. As an example, Ed Smart mentioned how his daughter believed she had some relevant information about Elizabeth, but they were cautioned to keep it secret.

But in the end, it helped find the perpetrators of the crime. More importantly, they got their daughter back.

Is Nancy Still Alive?

This week, in a podcast with Wyatt Sharpe on The Sharpe Exchange, Ed talked about something else that many people already fear. He said he no longer believes Nancy Guthrie is likely to be found alive.

Wyatt noted that “Smart now says he believes Guthrie is likely deceased, a reversal that could reshape how the investigation and the public view the search going forward.”

Ed Smart isn’t basing his thoughts about Nancy on anything concrete. But he did tell Wyatt that he’s reached out to a lot of other people who had family members go missing. And in his own personal trauma, feelings became paramount. He said, “I kind of feel that the indication I’ve had is that she is deceased.”

Then he added, “Certainly until you have a body, you don’t know, but at this point with her health issues and certainly pieces of the investigation that have come forward, it would it would certainly indicate that she is deceased.”

Like every true crime follower, he feels very sad for Savannah Guthrie and her family. He agreed that his heart goes “out to them,” while also adding, “it’s a very difficult situation.”

Viewers React

In the comments section, many people also claimed that they feel it’s unlikely that Nancy Guthrie is still alive. But some of them still referred to the way Ed Smart stayed in contact with people during the time Elizabeth was missing. But Savannah and her family seem to keep it very close to themselves.

A follower added, “The Guthrie family is polar opposite of the Smart family when it comes to getting the word out there.”

Here’s another comment about the difference between Nancy’s family and Ed Smart: “Excellent interview with Mr Smart. Why are the Guthries not searching for Nancy like this devoted father?”

People respond to trauma in very different ways. Unless someone has experienced a loved one going missing, it’s difficult to judge how another family chooses to cope.
