David Burke, the singer known to fans as d4vd, ended up arrested on Thursday this week on suspicion of murder. Actually, it’s been a long time coming and many true crime fans scratched their heads over why it took so long. Growing angry, they wanted justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez who was just 14 when she ended up discovered dismembered in a Tesla registered to the artist. Read on for more details.
Breaking Arrest News
Per Brian Entin, the independent crime journalist on X, on April 16, David Anthony Burke was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department. In his post, Brian wrote: .
.. Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas.

The major update follows confirms the rumors and suspicion that floated around ever since September 8 last year when car-lot workers smelled something terrible and a grisly find emerged.
The Secret Gand Jury
For a long time, not much came to light because a secret grand jury took place. Well, d4vd’s arrest is now confirmed and he is being held without bail. By Monday, more news should arrive as the LAPD plan to present the case to the District Attorney’s office on Monday for filing.
Notably the development brings the debate over David Burke’s “artistic expression” to an end. Well he is still innocent until found guilty, but make no mistake, true crime followers were not wrong that it looked considerably suspicious.
Other Convictions
For example, words from songs like Romantic Homicide really didn’t sound like fiction, retrospective to the news about Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death. After all, the line “In the back of my mind / I killed you / And I didn’t even regret it,” now seems almost like a confession.
It’s not clear if prosecutors will use that sort of evidence. However, if they do, it won’t be the first time that rap lyrics convicted someone. In the case of James Broadnax in Texas, 40 pages of lyrics helped convince a jury get him off the streets.
Plus, statistics from The Guardian show that since the late ’80s, lyrics appeared as evidence in at least 826 cases.
A Recap
As a reminder, David Burke (d4vd), was 21 when Celeste Rivas Hernandez, aged 14 was discovered. Reported as a runaway, it became obvious the duo had a close relationship. Naturally true crime followers argued that he’d been intimately involved with a juvenile, and that alone should have taken him into a jail cell.
Well, it looks like the LAPD dug deep into his investigation. Hopefully he’ll finally face some awkward questions in court. Well prepared for the day, back in October last year, he retained a hot-shot lawyer named Blair Berk.
Other News Pre-Arrest
Other news,or the lack of it, that frustrated folks came suggesting there never was a dismemberment. However, an update on that recently revealed that in fact she was. When detectives opened the storage compartment of the Tesla, they found a “black cadaver bag covered with insects.” Inside was a “decomposed head and torso.”
A second bag found underneath contained the victim’s severed arms and legs. Finally, word on the true crime street indicated that d4vd became a more serious suspect after his family unsuccessfully fought subpoenas to testify. While his team previously claimed he cooperated, law enforcement sources suggest that didn’t happen.
Viewers React
When Brian Entin dropped the news about the arrest, many people responded very quickly. On X, one follower wrote, “Yes! I hope there is really significant evidence and Celeste’s family gets some peace.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- Hallefreakinglujah! ! ! Man, that took a long time! Hopefully, they have evidence to fully prosecute now!
- Held without bail in LA, they must have all the details!
- That it took so long to arrest him tells me they have solid evidence against him.
- Finally! I feel like the public has been crying out for justice in this case. Why haven’t her parents been pushing for it?
