Fans at home were shocked that the soap recast the character, apparently Chad Duell was just as shocked when his replacement was announced.
Recently the fan fave opened up about his exit in a new interview, keep reading for all of the details.
Chad Duell’s GH Exit
Chad Duell played the part of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital for over a decade. The soap star made his Port Charles debut in 2010 and instantly became a key player on the show.
In 2024, the actor was apparently feeling burnt out and unsure about his future in soaps. He decided to take some time off and even gave Frank Valentini tons of notice before his departure. That’s when they filmed the burn scenes in early 2025.
Rory Gibson Joins GH Cast
Recently, Duell sat down with Michael Fairman and shared some interesting new details about how he left the show.
According to the former Michael Corinthos portrayer, “They didn’t burn Michael’s face because I told Valentini I’m willing to come back.
It was just a little bit of a break. So I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”
Chad Duell was just as surprised as fans when the soap announced Rory Gibson was taking over as a recast. The actor genuinely thought that when the soap brought Michael Corinthos back, they would contact him about a return.
Rory Gibson has definitely made the role his own since he arrived, do you think TPTB made a good choice when they cast him? Or would you have preferred that they brought back Chad Duell?
