In fact, her hostility is so intense that we have to wonder what’s been stirred up inside sweet Katie to explain all this venom.
Here are three possible reasons for Katie’s strong reaction. Do you agree?
Key Takeaways
- Katie strongly dislikes Dylan.
- Brooke may fuel Katie’s anger.
- Dylan reminds Katie of herself.
- Katie questions Will’s judgment.
- Electra remains Katie’s favorite.
- Dylan Is Brooke’s Substitute
Could Katie dislike Dylan because she’s frustrated with Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang)?
Katie and Brooke are at war, and there’s little Katie can do to make her sister back down.
Brooke refuses to see things Katie’s way, and that has to be frustrating.
It makes sense that Katie might be taking her anger out on Dylan simply because she can.
And the fact that Dylan is dating Katie’s beloved son certainly doesn’t help matters!
Perhaps Dylan has become an easy target for Katie’s unresolved anger toward Brooke.
2. Katie Sees Herself In Dylan
Then again, Katie may see a younger version of herself in Dylan, and perhaps she doesn’t like what she sees.
After all, these two women have quite a bit in common.
Both are brunettes from middle-class backgrounds who dared to reach for something bigger.
Katie landed Bill Spencer (Don Diamont), while Dylan has caught the attention of his mini-me, Will Spencer (Crew Morrow).
Yet Katie seems convinced that Dylan isn’t good enough for the Spencer family.
Isn’t that interesting, considering how similar their backgrounds are?
Dylan has admitted she’s impressed by the Spencer family and its powerful name.
Could Katie worry that Dylan is trying to claim a place in the family that Katie fought so hard to secure?
There’s also the fact that Katie likes Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace) and would much rather see Will with her.
Perhaps Katie simply doesn’t want Dylan taking Electra’s place.
3. Katie Doesn’t Trust Will’s Judgment
Katie may also realize that Will isn’t exactly making the smartest romantic decisions.
Let’s face it, Will can be a hotheaded young man who allows his pride and stubbornness to get the better of him.
He’s already clashed with more than one Forrester man, and you’d think he’d have learned a little self-restraint by now.
Instead, his rebound romance with Dylan suggests he may be acting on impulse rather than thinking things through.
That could leave Katie worried about her son, who doesn’t always behave like the mature adult he wants everyone to believe he is.
And considering the mess Will got himself into with Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada), perhaps Katie has good reason to be concerned.
But does that justify treating Dylan so harshly?
After all, Will is responsible for his own choices.
Editor’s Take
I think Katie is being far too hard on Dylan.
She seems to have forgotten that she wasn’t born into the Spencer family either!
And I wouldn’t be surprised if some of her frustration with Brooke is spilling over into her treatment of Dylan.
But here’s what really bothers me: Will is a grown man, and Katie needs to stop acting as though every woman he dates is responsible for his bad decisions.
If she doesn’t like Dylan, that’s fine. But she should at least give the girl a fair chance.
I also wonder whether Katie’s attitude will end up pushing Will even closer to Dylan.
What do you think? Is Katie jealous of Dylan, taking out her anger toward Brooke, or simply worried that Will is making another terrible mistake?
